My Sheene is lined completely in cotton drill, and for my purpose is a fall and spring jacket worn over a plain cotton shirt. If I need to layer, I generally wear my Teamster. IMO layering underneath most shorter jackets gives a "Michelin Man" appearance.

I love the lighter-weight tartan over the alpaca, which I had Thurston Bros replace in my 50's HB.
The alpaca I had did itch a bit but it was tolerable since I used to reenact US Civil War 25 years ago & have an itchy wool tolerance from that.
Still very warm & less bulk to me. JMHO...

Revivng an old thread. Anyone have any update opinions. This (Chicago) winter was looong. Fortunately i scored an awesome LW Anj-4. The oportunity to wear that jacket had me hating the cold a little less. I find for me the ANj-4 is good to about 38f. I would like something to bridge the range of 38-60 overcast and windy. Leaning towards a 1930s half belt. I think based in reading that alpaca is a no go for me. Guessing it would irritate my skin.
Corduroy is an awesome choice, durable and warm! I love it in my BL

I like both those options. Seems that cord isn’t listed on Aero site. Harris is waaaay cool. Just a matter of complimenting colors. Would love that red on a D pocket.
I don't believe the red plaid tweed is available at the moment. They pulled it from the website back around February when I placed my order as I was considering that lining.
I do find my reiver weight tartan liner to be comfortable and potentially warm. Maybe not Chicago winter warm without wearing layers.

No, 18mm shearling is barely warm enough for the coldest days here. Looking for fall/spring....and i tend to be cold
The corduroy isn't listed but it is available. I believe in only black and brown. With a hoody under the BL I never felt cold. Although there were days I simply refused to leave the house.

Not Aero's thing I don't think. Those didn't really appear until the 60's and 70's and Aero avoids those decades altogether.

I interviewed Ken for The Chap (Spring 2018 issue, available in all good newsagents as well as some frankly rather rubbish ones), and he was very clear that Aero's cut-off is 1960 - "Because the sixties was when people first started making crap." Indeed, he told me that he'd recently discovered that the Type III debuted in 1958, which he felt a relief as he'd long considered it a bit of an outlier in the Aero range.
Which is to say that I don't image you'll see that sort of feature in an Aero leather any time soon. As Ton says, that wasn't something you tended to see in leathers until at least the 60s, if not the 70s, even if it had been a thing in trenchcoats much earlier.

I agree, I got a sample of this lining and it is pretty dramatic! It could be awesome with the right leather but I like my linings to be a little more subtle.

I have the Alpaca in my Highwayman and have felt no irritation. Wearing a long sleeve shirt with a collar, the lining never touches my skin. Maybe some with an Alpaca allergy feel differently. But with the lining not touching the skin, I can't see it would be a problem.

I think that would be interesting, depending on the jacket. not really appropriate for the 20s/30s styles, but once you get into post-war jackets, especially motorcycle jackets, it would be eminently suitable. I've never tried on a jacket with Aero's specific quilted lining, so I couldn't honestly comment on that - suffice it to say that I wouldn't look at it for a jacket you wanted to wear in warmer weather / climates.

Yeah, probably wouldn’t, but in general my skin tends to be a bit sensitive. I’d hate to wait 10 weeks, get a perfect jacket, only to sell it 3 months later at a $600 loss because the alpaca doesn’t work for me.
