Aero Leather tumbled FQHH

I'm considering buying an Aero Original Hercules but can't quite decide between standard CXL brown and the "tumbled" variety of the same leather. I quite like the look of the tumbled from the Aero website but I'm wondering if it's just a lazy shortcut to getting the "broken in" look. My other Aero jackets have been the standard CXL and while the breaking in takes a while, the end result is always nice. I wonder how the tumbled will look over time.

Any opinions please?

All of my Aeros are CXL FQHH ( Hwyman, Bootlegger, HB ). However, the latest photos posted on this forum of the 'battered tan' HH have really impressed me. More than just a broken-in CXL , it looks as if it is oozing in it's own rustic character. I highly suggest checking that hide out. Maybe ask for samples from Aero.

I think tumbled looks great. It likely does require less breaking in. It'll look great as it ages, same as non-tumbled.

I'm waiting for @Sloan1874 to resppond as I know he has both. My only experience is a brown FQHH Teamster that is an incredibly nice hide. I think battered tan is a mid-weight HH. Also consider Aero's Vicenza/Italian mid-weight HH that is exquisite.

Thanks for the comments so far. I'd probably have never even considered the tumbled FQHH except that Aero say on their website that the tumbled particularly suits the original Hercules jacket - not sure why. Anyone here got an original Hercules in tumbled FQHH who could comment?

After Craig's photos, there's no question about it. Go tumbled!

IIRC when we were at Aero HQ they had two Hercules there that I handled in black on the regular stock hangers and I would say that hide looked like tumbled leather. I could be wrong but the grain is quite noticeable, they looked amazing.

That's a nice looking jacket. I just ordered an Aero and it was fun picking out the lining and details. What kind of lining were you getting?

Good choice. It's also slightly lighter, no idea why, than the untumbled stuff, so it's a little less cumbersome.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know why it is called tumble? Do they tumble it in a dryer to make the leather look so textured? Thanks SC

Yep, supposedly the hide is tumbled for a bit longer in those vats during the tanning process.

Just out of curiosity, anyone have any idea why the original Hercules at 735 uk pounds seems to be the most expensive jacket that aero sell? It's not in the premier range but has a higher ticket price than those and also many other jackets that look much more complicated to make. I wonder if there's something especially complicated in the construction that isn't immediately obvious, or just what they think the market will stand for some reason? Any thoughts?

I don't know the reason but maybe it has to do with the brand Hercules being in the tag and some sort of copyright? No idea, though.
