I would have been ok if the jacket was made...here it's not the case. Not even started....

How do you know that?

Can you be absolutely sure that Aero hadn't had any losses due to your cancelation of your order?

Again, nothing personal, I completely understand why you feel like this but again, that's something you have agreed upon. You told them they can keep your deposit if you give up on an order.

From the T&C:

Terms of payment are as stated on acceptance order and/or invoice. A 25% non-refundable deposit will be taken for all custom orders at point of order acceptance with the remainder of the fee taken at completion before delivery. A late payments surcharge may be levied on overdue accounts.

Any item ordered from stock, sale pages included can be returned for full refund or credit note

Any standard item made to order without any modifications can also be returned for full refund or credit note

Any custom made to order item or garment with modifications can only be returned for exchange and then only if there is an error in the specification, a fault in materials or make up or doesn't meet clients measurement specifications within the accepted tolerance.

totally absurd! I actually had this money available for the purchase of these jackets but it is far from the price of a car! I do not know many people in my entourage able to pay cash a car ....

I suppose it's all down to expectations. I bought an SUV for just over £1000 three years ago and it has served me and my family faultlessly since.

Does that mean your assertion that two jackets aren't worth a car is incorrect?

There are good points made throughout this thread, but the bottom line is that Aero stuck to their sales terms and you don't like it, because you feel your reason for forfeiting the purchase is exceptional. You've thus decided not to patronise them with further business, and that's your prerogative as a customer. The end.

Anything else is opinion, and we've all got those. Just like it's my opinion you can buy a perfectly serviceable car for the price of two new Aeros.

Humanity & business are two separate things, for better and for worse.

Sure you had an incident that was out of your hands and left you financially worse off, but at the end of the day as you have stated Aero are business who have to pay overheads, material costs, wages etc. The point of a deposit is to show you are committed to your purchase and to protect Aero by giving them indication that you’re not just going to walk away when it comes to settling the bill and leave them with a jacket that owes them money.

Would it have been stellar if Aero gave you back the NON-REFUNDABLE deposit given your situation? Most definitely. Are they obligated to? Absolutely not. But that’s just my own personal take on the situation, personally I would have zero expectation on receiving a refund of the deposit if I were in your situation.

Although I do have some sympathy and it is an unfortunate situation. If €230 is going to put you in financial hardship; should you really have ordered 2 leather jackets in such relatively close proximity?
Unfortunately being able to see into the future is not a talent I or others possess,,Otherwise we may never order anything,,I also wouldn’t pass judgement on others spending habits,
Had I listened to my wife’s protests about my spending I wouldn’t be sitting with over 30 jackets,:)

The simple answer would be to sell one of the previous 6 or 7 jackets already in your possession. I had to offload a spectacular black 50's HB when my truck took a dump. I shouldn't have had to but poor planning on my part led to a forced sacrifice. Aero has done right by refunding the paid in full total. Had you made this mistake with some other makers (which require 100% paid in full UP FRONT) the outcome would've indeed been much worse as you would have not been able to return and been forced to push the jacket off at a loss. I am sympathetic to your situation, it's terribly unfortunate but these are the times when you need to make a sacrifice. You can always replace a sold jacket at some point down the road.
EDIT: it appears those orders were also cancelled. Any leg to stand on has now been fully amputated.

He has cancelled three of these during the "wait" period and had three full refunds for the others
The latest order involved 20 emails to me, no idea how many more to other folk in Aeroi
This all costs money and time, this is why we added "No refunds on deposits" to our terms a few months ago
That doesn't mean we'll stick to that 100%, one has to earn the right to have the rule enforced

Lol. Buying a car at 1000 Euros ????!! I need to do more than 1500 kilometers / month to go to work... how much time will such a car still working with such kilometers ?

Laugh if you like. It's all opinions, remember. You asserted you couldn't buy a car for the price of two new Aeros: my opinion differed, and I explained why. Now you're bringing monthly mileage into the equation? Friend, I think you've forgotten what your point was.

FWIW, my bargain car has 140,000 miles on it. It works every day I need it. Nothing more to add there.

Way back when, you said you didn't like the way Aero conducted their business, so you weren't going to give them any more. I'd leave it there if you don't want to hear other opinions. There are other makers to buy from, perhaps they'll waive their T's & C's for you?

Tefouane, it sounds like this is done, burnt and over. I'd be pleased that the larger sum came back. You've got history with the company and have stated that your business with them is over (if it wasn't it would be by now). Cut losses and move on- if anything, you'll spare yourself the headache.

There something lacking with the OP story about hitting a deer and needing a refund on his jacket order. If he had insurance I would think a totaled car would require pay off of more than the deposit he is requesting from Aero. If the car is not totaled It seems insurance with cover repairs less deductible. Considering the way the story was presented here, omitting material background information I would not be surprised the alleged car accident has nothing do due with the OP wanting to cancel yet another order with Aero

If what Ken said about the order history of the OP is accurate then I’m surprised that Aero still accepted orders from him at all. Out of six orders in the last five years three were canceled and three returned for full refund. No wonder they instituted the non-refundable deposit.
