Aero Jacket Question (Also, are there quality jackets under 300 dollars?)

There are. Its possible to find used leather jackets for under $300 if you know where to look for them. If you don't want to pay a premium price for a new jacket, a used one can be an excellent buy!

A B-6 is warm enough for winter wear. But a B-3 is too much for most winter climates as its a heavy jacket to move around in.

You should have kept the B-6.

You could go for a Schott 184 MS.

Vintage Trends stocks them and you can get them for $125-150.

Incredibly warm with a fur lining. Its not as warm as shearling but its plenty warm enough with a t-shirt. I like mine a lot since I bought it.

OK, there's an issue I seem to have with the D-1 in terms of looks; it has what looks like sheepskin "stormflap" on the front, going beyond the button-up part. I would like my jacket to be without that, so that when I unbutton it, it doesn't cause an uneven appearance. My G-1 does that, and I've thought about cutting that part off, but I realize it's a part of the jacket style. I don't think the B-6 has the "stormflap" in the front, though.

I'm not sure if Aero allows it, they probably can do this for me, but can the color of a B-6's leather be different from the seal and redskin ones? How about for something in-between that, like a dark brown, but not as dark as seal, and perhaps honey/tan colored shearling instead of off-white? Would I be able to request such changes? Thanks.

Worth asking Amanda. Really, that will come down to whether the hide is available to them or not - I don't believe they can do custom orders like that on a one-of basis. I know I enquired a while back about black goatskin, but they can only get that in russet or seal. You might well find it difficult to find a fleece on alternative colours like that unless there is already another jacket (their Irvin fleece, maybe?) that uses it. There probably isn't as much demand for a specialised jacket like the B6 in colours that deviate from the original.

I think you can get Aero to do anything with the patterns and hides they have in stock. That certainly doesn't sound like a crazy deviation from what I've seen in their inventory...just ask!

Any more word on B-6 comfortable temperature range, before I may reconsider and go for an Indiana Jones jacket instead? For now, the one Aero I was interested in was the B-6 (ruled out the D-1 because of a detail I didn't like), but I'm still thinking things through. If in my area during the winter it rarely drops into the 40s, and goes into the 60s at high, would I be making a mistake getting a jacket like this?
