Aero Highwayman

I’ve just bought this Aero Highwayman off the ‘Bay.
Apparently it’s about twenty years old but it looks pretty good to me other than a couple of wear spots in the lining.
I’ll be wearing it on my Harley and as I live in the north of England I’m planning on taking a ride up to the Aero workshop once the weather warms up a bit.

Worth the trip, I went up in November. Got jacket start of Feb. I am from Northumberland.

Interesting... never seen a Hwyman with shearling and sateen(?). Looks nice and warm. Good pickup!

Worf

Yeah, presumably one that was custom ordered from Aero - afaik, the shearling lining has been an option extra forever. Don't see it so much, but the look of this one is how they do it. I think the satin lower panel is design to stop the trouser belt wearing at the shearling?

I’m probably slightly biased as I was born in Northumberland but the whole area and the Scottish Borders have to have some of the best motorcycle roads in the country, and they are absolutely steeped in history with the past feeling very close if you stop for a moment in some quiet place.

I sometimes give history tours around Northumberland. I live in south Northumberland. Great place!

Hi Chris,

I have been watching that one for a wee while. Seller was a nice chap, very helpful (but not my size just).

I think you got yourself a great jacket (at a pretty good price).
Nice job!

Aye cheers, I think it looks the business.
And you’re right, the seller seems a good bloke and he’s been very helpful.
I’m hoping the fit will be right on me, I’m 5'7" with a 38" chest and I want a warm jacket with a bit of room for a layer or two underneath as I plan to wear this on my motorcycle, I’ll know for sure when it arrives.
I like an easy fitting jacket on my Harley, something I can just throw on with boots and a pair of jeans without feeling trussed-up like a chicken.
I usually wear a G1 in a size 40 but the lining needs some work now and I also have an excellent ex-police BKS leather jacket but that one is full of armour and it’s pretty uncomfortable off the bike.

@Chris Tubman Just curious how you are getting on with this jacket after owning it for awhile. Is it as warm as one would expect with the shearling lining? Is it "too warm" for casual use (eg: knocking around town on foot, for example, in other than bitterest winter chill?). Or is it pretty versatile wearing? Considering one for myself. Thanks!

Well I wouldn’t want to wear this jacket on a hot day but I’m sure it would be fine for a cool evening.
I’ve only really worn my jacket while out on my Harley and it has been perfect for that so far.
I was wearing it on the bike a few weeks ago with a couple of layers underneath when it was 8 degrees or more like 4 or 5 up in the hills with significant motorcycle wind chill and it was fine, now the weather is warming up it would be ideal on the bike with just a T-shirt underneath.
But like I said, it wouldn’t be my first choice for walking around under a hot sun.
Every individual’s idea of cold, warm or too hot is probably different but I’d say buy it and try it and you can always sell it on if it doesn’t suit you as these jackets hold their value very well.
