i hate false praise, so easy to give but not really useful.

True. I occasionally see jackets posted here where the fit is, IMHO, undesirable, or the construction is palpably lacking. Yet, the posters receive high praise for the fit/construction. I understand the desire to be generous with compliments -- the world would be a better place if people complimented each other more often. On the other hand, disingenuous compliments are arguably counterproductive because the recipient might act upon them to his/her detriment. By way of example, the recipient of the false compliments might retain a jacket, rather then returning/selling it and seeking out a different jacket with a better fit or construction. False compliments also dilute deserved compliments. If someone compliments everyone, regardless of whether the compliment is deserved, there is no way for the recipient(s) to know if the compliment is genuine or deserved. I personally try not to hand out disingenuous compliments belied by my genuine perceptions. As such, when people receive a compliment from me, they know it is genuine and reflects my sincere perception.

The foregoing distinctions are largely illusory and impossible to judge because the determination of whether a compliment is deserved is inherently and profoundly subjective. Opinions regarding fit and construction vary dramatically. Therefore, I certainly cannot tell when someone's compliment is genuine or simply a polite/friendly gesture.

To be clear, the foregoing comments are definitely not directed anyone in particular and, frankly, I cannot think of anyone for whom the foregoing comments are more applicable. Rather, I am speaking entirely in the abstract.

Huge difference between constructive criticism and just being an asshole. One could argue there are at least a dozen different ways to offer a simple critique and conversely one path to being a turd.
LOL. Maybe this guy sent you an offer and you declined Guppy. So he's attempting to use his post as a means of persuasion, under subterfuge on this forum. I mean to have that as your first post and having just joined today? Yeah. Seems legit.

Hmm, now THERE'S a theory... I did have a pending sale from an ebay "best offer" on this, but it fell through. My fault, I did not catch that eBay had estimated the shipping weight for me at 1-2 lbs, and I wasn't going to take a $30 bath on top of the $50 off asking that I had agreed to, and when I tried to adjust the shipping upward by +$9 to partially offset, the buyer balked and we couldn't come to an agreement. Their loss, though, frankly.

a lot of people wear poorly-fitting clothes yet don't have much of a clue as to how to spot issues.

So true, and I was previously an egregious offender. Up until about eight years ago, much of my clothing was too large -- some items were comically large. Yet, I was entirely and blissfully oblivious. I look back now and cannot believe how poorly my old clothing fit. I occasionally come across an old shirt from that era and am shocked that I ever left the house wearing it. In retrospect, it was outright embarrassing. I guess my only saving grace is that over-sized clothing was more common back then and many of my peers also wore poorly fitting clothing. I still have some Loro Piana leather jackets that I cannot bare to throw out, but I will never wear again because they are far too large on me.

I have since purged my closet and largely purchased an entirely new wardrobe. My clothing transformation commenced around the time of my divorce, which I understand is not uncommon. I suddenly became more interested in and aware of my clothing, both in terms of style and fit, and completely changed my approach to clothing. Today, I am focused on details that completely eluded me years ago, including in particular the chest and shoulder dimensions. So many of my older clothing draped well beyond the edge of my shoulder, and had obscene amounts of room in the chest. For most here, these details are second nature, but for some reason I had no clue for many, many years.

Wearing it again now... I tried taking in the side adjusters a bit, per Ton's suggestion. I didn't think that it would be a good idea, since it's already a snug fit, but now it feels like I'm wearing one of my cafe racers. If it were a cafe racer, I'd say it was a very good fit! Lol. I think I could keep this one. I keep going back and forth on it. I think though that the right answer is probably that it's just too small. But if I don't care about not being able to layer under it, maybe it's OK if I desire a snug fit.

I think halfbelts look best when the fit is snug. I ordered my 50's HB with a size down drop to the waist for just that reason. I can't really get a sense of the length from your photos. Not from the front anyway. Back length looks good to me. I know the 50's HB is blunt cut across the bottom, that will pull the front up a bit.

I'll try to get some more photos soon.

Hey Guppy:
Until people driving down the road start honking and yelling about the fit...it’s a keeper!! Is it perfect? What is?
Super great hide, super great jacket.
My 2 cents.

Looks good to me. I prefer a tad short to a tad long.

As to critiques, if you are going to be “harsh”, it may be a good idea to pepper some positives in there too. Not a must but it can’t hurt. And definitely try to have a clue about what you are talking about. Other than that, fire away.

What he had to say to me about his opinion of the fit didn't bother me at all. But his accusations directed at those who had praised the fit wasn't called for. I'm glad it didn't escalate into a big deal. We have better things to do.
