Aero Gabardine questions (max and min temps)

Hey folks!

I just got my first Aero LHB order together, and I still have a few unanswered questions. You have all been really helpful thus far with the extensive information you've provided in this forum and I've narrowed down many of my choices because of this. So, thank you!

Anyway, I've searched quite a bit, and everyone seems to talk about the colder temperatures that they're willing to wear their jackets in, but I'm wondering how long into the spring, or how early in the fall I can begin wearing my new jacket (when it comes).

I ordered a LHB in Brown (as dark as the cutter can find) FQHH. Per JanSolo's, suggestion, I went with the Gabardine lining. Here's where I'm stuck; I want the jacket to be able to stand up to winter temperatures here in DC with the use of a sweater if needed, and I'd like to wear it with a t-shirt in the spring and fall if possible. If I choose an alpaca lining under the gabardine, will it be too much in the spring/fall? Also, if I went this route, should I add alpaca to the sleeves as well under the gadardine? Should I skip the alpaca altogether?

Now I have a few questions about personal preferences. For the inside vertical pockets, does anyone have snaps or zippers and wish they had the other? If so, what are the reasons?

I've been pouring through the hundreds of tartans, and I've found a few that I love. I tend to wear a lot of button down shirts, and some happen to be plaid. From a fashion perspective, is it ridiculous to wear a jacket with a tartan lining over a plaid shirt? I'm just not very sure because nobody really sees the lining unless the jacket is off, right? Maybe I should just stick with the gabardine for this jacket, and save the tartan for my next one. Any thoughts on that?

Thank you all so much!

Hi Seawolf,

my jacket is exactly like this you are going to order. LHB with alpaca and an overlay of gabadine. My one works fine between 0°C (32°F) to 12°C (54°F) with a sweater in lower and a shirt in the higher temoeratures of this range. here in northers germany we have often these temperatures.

i ordered alpaca also for the sleeves. with the slim down sleeves of my jacket it is very trim in the under arm area. when you will not order slim down sleeves it will be fine. with slim down sleeves i would go for a thinner lining in the sleeves.

Hope tha answers your question.

Thanks Gancho,

That's very helpful! I'm also curious though, if those with gabardine lining only are wearing their jacket well into the 60's? Also, after reading about Tommer45's issue with his LHB lifting up when he raises his arms, I spoke with Amanda about it, and she suggested raising the arm holes very slightly. Hopefully what you're saying Gancho about the slim sleeves, doesn't apply to this situation.

Hi Seawolf,
raising the armwholes is a difficult thing. The difference between slightly raised and to high is very small. I have laid my A2 38-1711, witch has really high armwholes and is unwearable with more than a thin shirt, onto my Café Racer, witch could have higher armwholes for me. The difference is 1 - 1,5 inches.

Cheers

Oh! Good tip! Maybe I'll just have Amanda remove that form the order. Does anybody else have experience with raising the arm holes?

Hi Seawolf,
No experience with raising the armholes, but have you considered placing an inner strip on the lower interior to prevent wear and sagging?
Here's a picture of my (sold) LHB:
