There's truth to this but at the same time I am one of those who bought FQHH and regretted it and I did spend some years trying to make it work. I don't like the leather's qualities or how it feels on and if you are in a warmer area it is almost never wearable. I suspect FQHH is most successful in cooler places but personal taste also plays a role. I've collected hand crafted leather jackets for over 30 years and 3oz leather, particularly FQHH has never appealed to me.

I think you're right - I can't imagine trying to wear the full horse any time before late September or after mid-April, but after that it's a question of what you feel comfortable with.

In the depths of winter (when I live/d in countries that have a good, solid, proper winter), the FQHH Stockman and Highwayman I own worked very well against the cold if I layered thermals, t-shirt and heavy sweater underneath them. I imagine that this had more to do with the layers than the FQHH, although I am tempted to get another mid-weight jacket to test this out...

Hah maybe I'm just infatuated with the weight of it, like being in a pleasant smelling cocoon :) A dark seal vincenza cafe racer would be sweet! Really like jerky as well though...

I'm in Vancouver where winter is fairly mild, hoping the fqhh with a light tartan will work well... possibly med weight as I travel a lot for work to cold zones

So any thoughts to changing the racer back, how much will it adjust the open drape of the jacket? I don't want a super baggy back and am afraid the stock back will get that way?

Never had any problem with heavier hides. Years ago when I first decided to order a FQHH jacket I was a little bit afraid it would be like wearing some XII century armour, heavy and ridiculously ristrictive. But once I got the jacket my fears soon disappeared, FQHH surely is substantial, but with a little of time it molds and breaks pretty well.
I live in a pretty sunny country, in fact I live by the sea, in a place where the sun shines from late March to early October and I've found space and a time to wear my FQHH jackets.

The back of a cafe racer won't stretch much- it's a cut that, when zipped, would hold you pretty much 'in place'. It's not going to be baggy unless you order a size up (and, even then, it wouldn't be boxy).

Good to know, seen posts of a few older aero cafe's, their back design seems to have changed some.

The second reason I'm looking at this, is the better half dislikes the stock design of the back. I showed her the buco and single yolk design.... not sure if I could deal with the yolk on a cafe, but none the less, it's a consideration. I'm just wondering how much it will adjust the feel, and drape of the jacket if I were to change the back.

FQHH or it's steer equivalent I think is best as one of your jackets as opposed to your only one - unless you don't want more than one, ride, and/or live in cooler climes.
If I had to have ONE jacket (aside from jumping from a high bridge) I'd have something in the middle. Being here in SoCal, I currently have two heavy FQHH jackets, and sadly wear time is limited.
Everyone should at least try it though...

I agree, I have a few cheaper denier leather jackets for different occasions, one beloved jacket that resembles an aero plainsman in brown that is at the end of its life...

I live in vancouver, where it hangs in the 40's in winter, so I'm hoping I can get a fair amount of use out of the fqhh

Well it came this weekend, and I've noticed too many of this style thread start and end without finish pics! So here's one, not good, but the best I can do traveling for work!

Thanks for all the help folks!

Excellent jacket and a perfect fit! Is it correct to assume you ordered this in early August and just received it this weekend? 14 weeks?

Very correct sir! I work out of town and the thought of it showing up while I was away was killing me! Got lucky, was home when Carrie emailed me!

Wow! That's a helluva long wait...doesn't bod well for my order placed in September...that's a good 4-5 weeks on top of the "typical" production time. Any reason given for the delay?

Hmm just checked back, ordered mid August, took longer then expected as aero was out of the fqhh brown. And thanks, loving the fit!

Ah...Surprised as that's a staple I'd imagine...fit is perfect man, couldn't be better and that color is easy to wear with just about anything. Well done!

Ah thanks man, seems to so far! I give my wife credit for pushing brown on the cafe, and Carrie for getting me a very dark one as requested. Only had it since Friday and lighter tones already seeping through. Can't wait!

My second bootlegger. Lots o' mods and also in brown CXL (steer). My first BL took a full four months as they had a similar problem sourcing Cordo steer. I'm hyper paranoid I'll be duplicating that wait again! Of course Aero can only sew up a jacket as fast as they can get the material from Horween (which is literally blocks from front door). Man I always preach patience and now look at me.
Anyway not to derail. Your jacket is stunning man. You'll get so much wear out of it. CR is easy to pair with anything and looks just as good dressed up a bit as it does with jeans and a t shirt.

Ah cordo bootlegger uh, I'd love one in the dark that seems to show up randomly! My next might be a plainsman in cordo... no sure horse or steer though. Any thoughts ?
