@MrProper Jacket fits you like a glove! Excellent fit. How's the mobility in it? It's interesting you found the gussets help you wear a size smaller- I had one as a fit jacket, and I couldn't activate those mini-gussets at any angle, leading me to believe they were purely cosmetic. It was however peculiarly labelled, being much tighter around the chest/armpits than the tag size would lead you to believe, and as such didn't fit me.

I would wait until you get back to your normal shape first before making fit decisions, especially on a very tailored piece that cost more than a grand. What will be perfect fit now will not be a few months from now. And you're right about vicenza or any good horsehide, they have very dense fibers and do not stretch. If your current fit jacket is already tight in the shoulder it won't work once you get back in shape. To me, shoulder fit is the most important. The torso can always be taken in but the shoulders ("A") cannot be stretched out.

A useful image. For me, B is the measurement I struggle with- my shoulders and my arm length are normal for my height (6'1) but my chest is big and my waist is comparatively small. When B does fit me in an off the peg jacket, it's guaranteed that A, C and E will all be oversized on me. With a 10 inch drop from chest to waist it's a royal pain in the ass trying to find jackets (or shirts) that fit. I have a few that are simply too long in the shoulder for me, which doesn't look flattering and mucks up mobility.

You should try Taylor stitch button up shirts. I have a 42in chest and 32in waist and their Medium are the best fitting shirts I have.

I would say the gussets help.
I can move around perfectly in the Sheene. In my 5* with gussets as well.
My Fieldleathers with almost identical dimensions without gussets limits a bit when I stretch my arms forward. But maybe it is a different pattern.
What I do not like with a size larger and gussets is that the rear view looks much more puffy. The gussets look much bulkier than without.
I think I will order my next jackets again without gussets.

I live the CR v-taper silhouette a lot better than the BR. You have to be built like gumby to have a good fit in the BR.

Apparently I'm gumby too, because there's no way in hell I can fit in an Aero CR without a lot of excess material in the back.

I ended up ordering a size 42 BR (from 40 previously) with a vertical seam to hopefully get a tighter fit in the lower back.
