I just got a fit jacket in the black vincenza. I love this leather. In my opinion, it looks much nicer in person than pics. But like HD, I don't care for pebbly goat.

Another one here that doesn't like the pebbly texture of goat. I've got a black Vicenza jacket due soonish, will let you know what its like wen it arrives.

I love the goat, but it's all subjective. Is the V the horse that carried an upcharge? Does that affect the decision?

Narrowing down my next order. Thoughts?

TBH, get samples and choose what you like and are looking for in a hide for your jacket.

Everyone is different and values different leather characteristics.

At the end of the day, only you can make the decision of what you like and want.

+1 Pics and opinions are no replacement for having the stuff in your hand.

All very true, the problem of course buying sight unseen, fit, leather.Etc...

A 2x2 square sample hardly does any hide justice. We all share our likes, dislikes (and errors) in this small community online. Much thanks to everyone!

You're absolutely right. I tend to think that you have to take it all in the round when you're making your decision.

To me, one of your big considerations between the two is how you would like the jacket to age. Goat will stay much newer looking (much) while the Vincenza will be extremely grainy and should develop much more character, color variation, etc... If you want to wear a jacket for years that looks "new", then choose goat.

I've had the Italian hide less than a month.... Not a winter coat so I'm wearing the Veste around the house... Already starting to grain nicely and, in that it's a very dark seal, I can even detect hints of a lighter base showing though. Don't own any goat myself so I can't tell you the difference.

From experience the combo chrome/veg tanned goat grains and ages fast. I'm fairly sure Al and Aero use the same hide.

Actually, we've now got what we feel is a much superior goatskin, since early 2014 ours has come from a new Tannery and is made exclusively for Aero :)

I can attest to the superior quality of Aero's recently acquired goatskin based on my seal brown Pioneer and black Maxwell. Unfortunately my IPhone6 pictures don't do justice. The goatskin is thick, supple, and has outstanding grain. I've never seen the Vincenza so have no basis of comparison.

I have to say having sampled Eastman, Lost Worlds, Aero, Alexanders and BK goatskin ... they are all very good and you wont be dissapointed with any of them. The Eastman ( G-1) and BK stuff (M422a) is very grainy / pebbly and a little stiff if I'm honest but softens exceptionally with wear. The lost Worlds stuff (G-1) was ( as you'd expect from Stu ) stunning, very evenly pebbled and thick. The heritage Aero stuff (M422a, AN6552) and the Alexanders stuff (Dakota) are very similar and is a little thinner than the New Aero stuff which makes the new aero stuff seem a little more substantial ( I'm going by a sample rather than a jacket ).

They're all exceptional examples of Goatskin :)

I've no experience of the Vicenza HH ... but if Aero are using it it's likely to be equally good :)

But before then you guys used the same well regarded goat, right?

Well, I really can't comment on what leather other makers use, but I would hazard a guess that AL haven't strayed too far from our pre-2012 sources for some of their stock! We've taken on the motto of 'onwards and upwards', and will never stop looking to improve materials. Our old goatskin was perfectly satisfactory, but we feel the new goatskin is certainly a league or two above our old stock.

I'd say the same applies to our upgraded Shearling, Alpaca Wool, Cotton Drill and Zippers we've sourced in the last wee while.
