Just throwing this out there. From what I remember, you said the leather was quite different to other FQHH you had seen. I have no idea of Horweens processes but is it possible this hide came from a partially vegetable tanned batch by mistake? Throw in very high humidity and that might be cause for a little shrinkage?

Personally, by now, I would have:
1. Contacted Horween directly and asked them
2. Driven to Scotland and shown them first hand. Its only an 8 hour drive...I did it a heap of times when I lived in London.

Its obviously still bothering you enough to keep posting about it. Life is too short to waste on jackets that don't fit the way you want.

Unless of course you are living up to the stereotype that an Englishman isn't happy unless he has something to complain about :eeek:lol

The FQHH is all partially veg tanned. CXL is chrome tanned with a veg re-tan. Horween to me is the best route to see what they think from the pictures.

I think we all can agree that how the jacket was folded and transported had nothing to do with the shrinkage.

I think we do... there are some of us that agree with his conclusion of shrinkage but just didn't like all of the speculation, some of which was pretty far out there. Also the "after" pics of the jacket all the way up his neck just added to the confusion. Was that caused by the shrinkage or were his shoulders way up in the air?

This old post probably captures the essence of truth more than any that's been posted yet....

'This funny thread takes character of Pachelbels canon in D major. It goes on and on and on, for the fun of Schitzo himself. Is it only Hoosier Daddy, who can see that this thread has taken form of a sideshow, with Schitzo standing with a baton, directing you all to play his tune :O)'

If no one notices how the 'shrunken' jacket pic is pulled up in front higher on the neck and hands stretched out to make it appear shorter...then how will any ever realize just what this long drawn out double thread is really all about. Think about it...
HD

If you pull up the jacket, you can see the relaxation around the shoulder, but in the picture, the effects around shoulder part is more like the jacket is tight on him.

Look at the pulled up higher collar man..and the stance..don't allow yourself to fall for this and help continue another thread to nowhere. :eusa_doh:

I agree that the jacket appears to be worn higher in the more recent photo, as evidenced by the distance from the top of the collar to the chin (although I cannot be certain given that the chin is not clearly visible in the second photo). That said, it still appears that the jacket is shorter in the second photo. The measurement across the hip – from pocket rivet to pocket rivet – is nearly the same in both photos. This suggests to me that the photos are sized/scaled appropriately. Yet, the sleeve and front zipper lengths in the second photo are palpably shorter as compared to the first photo. The positioning of the jacket may accentuate the issue, but the sleeve and zipper length dimensions should not be affected by the placement of the jacket.

Caveat: I am a novice at this stuff and could easily be deceived. There are a few photographers within TFL who understand this stuff far better than I.

Put a jacket on then pull the collar up in front closer to your chin..then notice how it rides up at the bottom. Now just splay your hands out and see what happens. Should be obvious. Makes a big difference....

HD, I have no dog in this fight, and I have never been a member of Schitzo's fan club (as evidenced by our public exchanges). That said, I am curious: Do you believe that Schitzo's jacket has not shrunk and Schitzo is outright lying? Why would he do that? I suspect you will answer "to garner attention." That strikes me as rather strange; on the other hand, I have certainly seen stranger. Perhaps I am naive and/or have been successfully deceived, but it seems to me that, regardless of what one might think of Schitzo and his posting habits, his jacket shrank.

Again, I recognize that I may be deceived here. However, I fail to see how wearing the jacket higher, so that it rides up on the bottom, and stretching one's arms so that more wrist is exposed, affects the objective length of the sleeve and zipper. Yes, the jacket will appear shorter because more wrist and waist will be exposed, but that is merely appearance. I agree with you that the jacket appears to be worn differently in the second photo and that creates an appearance of it being much, much shorter. Nevertheless, absent actual shrinkage, the sleeve and zipper measurements should be the same regardless of how the jacket is worn. According to my novice examination, the sleeve and zipper measurements are shorter in the second photo. The difference in the dimensions is clearly accentuated by the placement of the jacket, but that is merely appearance.

Given the higher placement of the jacket in the second photo, the amount of the shrinkage may be meaningfully less than the second photo suggests; and the jacket may still be very wearable notwithstanding the shrinkage. It would be interesting to see a photo with the jacket worn in the same manner as the first photo.

I know what you mean and I noticed the collar is higher. But as I said and tried, if you pull up the collar higher, you will relax the shoulder. And I have no interest in any kind of fight or anything, just want to find out what the truth is.

And, IMO, the best way is to ask schitzo to take another photo with a natural stance.

Schitzo's jacket is shorter.
I believe it is a fact.

It's not a fact unless proven. The only proof would be accurate measurements when new and accurate measurements now. otherwise, one can only speculate what might or might not be present.
