Advice on minor waistband and cuff repairs?

My G-1's waistband is in great shape - save for one significant hole near the top edge. It's a minor nuisance, but I would rather get it fixed now and avoid the risk of it expanding and necessitating a complete replacement some day. Can anyone suggest an effective repair method for this sort of damage?
