The rack keeps the hat up out of harm's way. My passenger seat tends to collect stuff--audio books, cell phone, small purchases, etc. during my commuting. If the hat is on top of the collection it tends to slide off onto the floor. I could toss it into the back seat, I suppose, but I often have them folded down.

Warlock's issue is having a spouse who tosses stuff into the back seat without looking.

I find the rack to be a neat solution.
