The AB Deluxe waiting time is around 11 months, so much the same as for Steve's standard model.

Marc Kitter's easy to deal with, being both very friendly and helpful.

I ordered up a Deluxe a month or two ago, as I wanted a bound brim. That's something that Steve doesn't offer. For an EU based customer there's not a great difference in price (about 50 euros) between the standard and deluxe once shipping and import duties are factored in.

I e-mailed Steve about my order twice and haven't received a reply yet. Though I haven't e-mailed him since my order last month (I hate to keep mailing him) I took it as he is extremely busy. I understand that. Has anyone received a e-mail from Steve notifying you about your order?

I don't think Steve specifically acknowledges orders when they're made, although he does (usually) respond to emails. He said on COW that he had a backlog of close to a thousand emails that accumulated when he was sick.

I have successfully communicated with Steve via email, although sometimes it takes a couple of tries. I think part of ordering from Steve is simply accepting the wait time and recognizing he won't be chatty via email.

Developing patience is good for you. :D

New mail!

I just received my reply from Steve Delk about my hat. He said: Hi Ken. Sorry about that. I must have missed sending you an email that I had received the order. Or you ended up in my spam box at my server. Regardless, I have your order. These hats will be made in sept and oct, the may orders. Hope that is ok. Handmade hats are very labor intensive. Thanks. Steve :Coolbeans. Now I just need to sit back and forget about it till the little white box arrives :p

For those wondering, I have received one of two AB's on order from last June. It took just over 13 months, and Steve is nearly done with June orders (his highest volume month). I think he ended up with so many June hats that he's been on them for the last three months! And I did e-mail him requesting a chat before he went to work on them, and he got back to me when the time came.

So, for all those waiting; The moment will come - never lose hope. ;)

You ordered in May '08 and he's planning on making it this coming Sep/Oct? I can't imagine he could possibly get to them that quickly. [huh]

AB Hat order.

Yes I purchased it on May 19th 08. No matter what time it will be made, the important thing is that he replied to the e-mail and the purchase has gone through on his end :D

phenomenal hat

I ordered mine June 16 2007 and just got it yesterday. So four days shy of 14 months. I was skeptical about weather the wait time was worth it. Unfortunately I think it may have been. It is a phenomenal looking hat and I am very happy with the way it turned out. He even got the long oval right. Time will tell about the durability, but if it proves to be as solid as it looks, I may have to put in an order for a grey one some time in the future.

Great news, Johnny! So far, my first from two years ago still looks brand new, and it's seen rain, snow, and diet pepsi. So, I think it can take a little punishment. :D

Good to know Not-Bogart13. I just posted pictures on the "post new hats here" thread if anyone is interested.

I've one of Marks AB Deluxe since one year and it is still in perfect condition. It is really worth the price and the waiting time. The beaver felt is durable, I had it two times on during a real showering rain and it is still like I got it. I think Mark got a special felt with some extra waterproofstuff in it.
Besides, who can normally say that he is wearing the hat from Indys personal hatmaker? :D

Recent AB in action pic, for your enjoyment. This was an afternoon hike with my family up a nearby canyon, mostly to see the leaves. The weather was crisp and cool, this is my favorite time of year. My wife took this pic, then photoshop'd the frame, I thought I would share. The jacket is my Aero 1940 A2

Steve just announced some improvements to his Raiders block, saying it finally fixes a few small items on the back that were just never completely to his liking. Also, he announced a potential "retirement" from "making hats" when he turns 60 in about two years, although he will continue to reblock his hats following that point.

I ordered back in Nov 2007 and I suspect about two more months...

I've had my AB since June and love it. The quality is fantastic.

It held up wonderfully to 3 weeks of abuse in Egypt.

Wow. Wasn't it a little hot for fur felt? I know Indy wears one, but that's a movie.
