In a lot of ways the films of A&C embody the 1940's more than any other films. Not only were they funny as hell ( highest paid actors at the time) but their films really show the mindset, style humor, music, and thrills of the decade. Besides the war films, which covered the Army( Buck Privates) the Navy (In the Navy) and the Air Corp (Keep Em Flying) some of their films are like a one stop shop for life in the 40's.

A&C were at the forefront of the loud-brash-abrasive wave of comedy that came to the fore in the early forties -- they along with Bob Hope were the essence of that style. Their early fifties TV series is valuable as well in that it preserves a great many old burlesque comedy routines that would otherwise have been lost.
