Wondering what y'all thought is better for daily wear and versatile for dressing up/down?

Thanks!

By perfecto, I'm assuming you mean a cross-zip.
I'm not sure what you mean by which is better for daily wear... like which one is more durable? that depends on the leather, stitching quality, thread, etc...

For versatility, I'd give it to the A2. Depending on your work setting, cross-zips could get a bunch of "Where's your motorcycle?" comments and some might see it as a bit edgy for a guy.
Half-belts are also a nice versatile option and usually better fitting than an A2 imo.

I'd always pick a cross zip over an A2 though.

I knew I saw it somewhere and had to find it, but here's a pic of @AeroFan_07 dressed sharply in a cross-zip:

Yes a cross zip! For daily wear meaning ease of use, versatility with different outfits, not so much durability. I can see the "where's your bike" comments but with an A2 I can also see the macarthur comments. I do agree the cross zip is edgier

Lol I don't think you'll get as many MacArthurs as the bike ones unless you adorn it with patches, blood chits, etc...

Versatility with different outfits is very subjective and I think that's something you'll have to pick up and discover. I was coming at versatility more from a social perspective standpoint.

I don't think cross zips are edgier, but some people might - I like how they fit and look.

Hey thanks - cool that you thought of this.

Yes, I have "dressed up" a perfecto style such as this and soon I'll try it with a J24.

But I just really do not prefer A2's - or most bomber style jackets. That's what I wear in the dead of winter when it's just silly cold outside and I've given up all sense of "style".

It really looked like it came out of a catalog, so an easy one to remember lol

I get this ALL THE TIME
"you road you bike today ?"
In many years of wearing leather jackets, I've only been asked this once. And that was a colleague who really thought I was travelling by motorbike.
Maybe that's a regional thing, if you get asked that a lot ;)
And to the actual question... I would also prefer the xzip to the A-2.

More of a regional thing. I guess in the US the association with motorcycles is just too strong lol

I’m in NYC, where people mind their business for the most part so I don’t actually get asked that a lot - but people can be self-conscious I suppose. Wearing a well fitted cross zip makes you stick out more since most other men I see in a leather jacket tend to wear a bomber style that’s 2 sizes too big lol

On few occasions, I could tell the person asking was being sincere and probably miss their riding days. Got a couple of snarky remarks at work when I was wearing what I thought was more neutral like a half belt or the Lee, but I don’t take it too serious so it dies down after the first few times.

On the flipside, I’ve gotten “cool jacket” and someone asked me where I got mine from lol

I think in Europe it’s just seen more as a style choice and nobody feels like they gotta remark on it

Both? And maybe a half belt sports jacket too.

Modernized A2 fits more like a slim long shacket, not baggy at all,

Original contract repros fits shorter and boxier but still works well imo, you can't go wrong with A2, it has stood the test of time,

Perfecto is an iconic jackets on its own, totally different than the A2 vibe. Generally looks cooler than the A2 imo. Mostly ladies wearing a fashion version of this design where I am at now. Most guys around here on bikes wear very basic types of straight zips.

Don't forget half belts/cossacks, they're probably the best option for dressing up or down.

One jacket simply cannot cover the wide spectrum of looks. Maybe three.

I believe an A2 looks well dressed up, e.g. with a suit trouser, formal shirt and tie.

Suit and tie pretty much is a uniform, so to mix-and.match with military outerwear looks really dashing to my eye.

I recommended and agree with the half-belt too... easy going style and versatile enough for all kinds of settings
