I did the same thing. Ordered the horse A-2 from US A and returned it because it was too stiff for me and it would have taken me forever to break it in. I too have a FS goat A-2 that is nice and soft and comfortable to wear. I guess we are both spoiled. It is my understanding that the FS horsehide is softer so I may give it a try.

Ray,
Yes you are right. Had a FS Historical A2 and it was real soft. Of course the Monarch I got from RMNZ was real soft too but had some grain to it which the FS did not. What is strange is the RMNZ goat I got was a bit stiff while the FS was not. But the RMNZ is breaking in nicely. Currently all of my original A2s are goatskin and man are they nice. Got a RW and two Donigers.

I just read somewhere online that veg tanned leather is inherently stiffer than chrome tanned.
My horsehide is still a bit stiff even after a year, but I will bear with it. Maybe it's the novelty of it after having worn nothing but goat for so long. [huh]

As far as original A2s are concerned my veg tanned Roughwear 1401p is more supple than the later original chrome tanned ones I own. Veg tanned leather is the best quality you can get.

I have a horsehide veg tanned A2 from Aero...initially stiff, but I take it everywhere with me. When I am not wearing it, I sit on it ...on the couch, in the car when its too hot to wear it (Australia !!) basically, just break it in every way possible and it is quite supple. My mate Sam has a Real McCoy A2 in horse and mine is equal to his now in suppleness. They just need some serious lovin'. Just throw it down and sit on the bugger! when you can't wear it of course!!!!!!!!
