A2 Flight Jacket: How to identify an original?

I am aware that the Fedora Lounge is frequented by many jacket enthusiasts, many of which are knowledgeable regarding A2 Flight Jackets, original and reproductions.

I have only ever seen photographs or display cased museum examples of original 1930's or WWII period A2 jackets, therefore my experience of an authentic "original" is limited.

However can anyone advise on some tips for distinguishing original issues A2s from the many reproductions that are to be found? I am not sure this is straightforward, given the number of jackets and the highly detailed replicas available?

Apologies if the above is very naive!

Thanks.

Welcome to the Lounge.

If anyone can distinguish between an original and a reproduction, it is Andrew, and he is unselfishly willing to share his knowledge.

A picture paints a thousand words...

Thanks for the replies so far "Peacoat" and Andrew... and the warm welcome.

Yes I will enjoy studying further the many photos of the fine A2s that forum members have posted. I've already looked at some of the incredible jackets Andrew owns; a very inspiring and complete collection of A2s! I will return to those again! Thanks for sharing those photographs.

Yes the option of uploading a photo for others to consider is a very good idea.

Thanks,
Tim
