I suspect it's to stop nosey buggers like your's truly checking through the win/sale history of everyone i'm bidding against.

How do you think i found out HBKs/Marc Cs eBay IDs?

Double edged sword, of course. (unless the seller gets to still see the info. Kind of useful for a seller to know if a deadbeat is bidding).

Doing research is only a problem if some can and some can't. If all are allowed to and some choose not to, for any reason, so be it.
