There's been a massive change to the way bidders ar listed on ebay.

You can no longer see their screennames any information about them apart from how many item the have next to their name and you cant see what they have bought either, apart from vague listings.

How are you supposed to know or judge how knowledgeable your opponents are? It used to be a good way to gauge if something was worth bidding on if a know name was going for it. Or even another Lounger.

I think, this is a very bad move by ebay.

Just noticed this also on ebay. Here's what ebay has posted on this issue:

"As the internet evolves, eBay continues to strike a balance between preserving transparency and protecting our Community of members. eBay has decided to change how bid history information is displayed so bad guys cannot target bidders with fake offers using this information. In certain cases, some bidders will no longer be able to view Bidder User IDs on the Bid History page. Your User ID will be shown only to you and the seller of the item you're bidding on. Other members will see an anonymous name, such as Bidder 1, applied consistently to the Bid History page."

YUCKkkkkk

Your right I just checked a UK listed seller on Ebay I was thinking of bidding on.
The Ebay, party line is its privacy/security issues blah blah blah.

If this becomes the norm on All Ebay auctions :)eusa_doh:) this may be the end of Ebay for me after many years. I can see lot bidding abuse issues etc. YUCK :rage: :rage: :rage:

SC :eusa_doh: :eusa_doh: :eusa_doh:

This sounds like a good plan. I have been contacted quite a few different times by people proporting to be ebay sellers. They have said that I won an item, of which I never bid on, and that they needed all of my personal information to process the order, including my Social Security number. I knew this was a scam and immediately reported and forwarded the fake message to the ebay team that deals with this kind of stuff. I got a standardized letter from them saying the obvious stuff that I already knew on how to protect my self from fraud. It was a bunch of bull. I emailed them again asking if they would do anything to the people who were trying to do this to me, I had there names after all. They said there was nothing they could do. I was appalled. So now, I am very leery of buying through ebay. The administration will do nothing to protect you from all of the fraudulent sellers that are out there. And the answers that they send you are completely useless. Common sense answers that a two year old could have figured out.
Well, I hope there plan of blocking the list of bidders will work out in the favor of those who have gone through such harassing experiences, lots more than once. But, I don't trust the guys upstairs. Sorry, it's late, and I at too much turkey, so my minds on tryptophan! Wish I could explain myself better... Just very annoyed with the recent lack of security and the major lack of taking charge by the administration in these situations. I had to send 4 different messages to finally get through to someone. All I got back was a standardized message telling me I should never give my personal information to anybody. NO KIDDING!!! But, what are you people gonna do about the people who are asking me for it on a regular basis??

Ebay

This thing just seems to be "starting" is not all over the place on Ebay "YET"!
My problem is shill bidders if this adopted as relates to antiques/art/militaria categories.

Ebay's one solution fits all doesn't always work :eusa_doh: While I understand this probably does cover a problem they have it also IMO covers a thing Ebay doesn't like bidders contacting other bidders even for "legitimate" purposes if they feel there is even a chance it will cut into Ebay's profits.

Feebay is test running this in Ebay motors in the United States and it will be moving into the other areas as well. As a vintage clothing seller I see this as an easier way for shill bidding to run rampant. It's one of the problems that Feebay has not fixed and I don't believe ever will. JMHO.

Ebay Bidder #1, #2 Etc. Etc.

1. Ms. Viviene I concur :eusa_clap

2. Ms. Fleur De Guerre that value level+ is what I'm concerned about with shill bidding

I think it's a saftey measure taken by eBay to prevent any arguments and altercations between bidders if there is a high emotions auction. [huh] But that's just my opinion.

Well, they're protecting you for your own good. You can hardly be expected to do it yourself, even if you have been.

Just enjoy it, it's for the greater good...

I don’t use eBay that much, but it doesn’t sound like a bad thing to me. My bid history and contact info is no bodies business but mine and the sellers.

If it's something like hats or whips :) there's a small hardcore of interested parties and it interesting to see who you are bidding against. Putting the bidder 1, 2, 3 takes a lot of the fun out of it. You don't know if your arch nemesis is bidding and cannot gauge the level of bid you need to put in. It's a further push towards impersonal sniping software, which I feel kills the "for the chase" aspect of ebay.

-snip- eBay has decided to change how bid history information is displayed so bad guys cannot target bidders with fake offers using this information. -snip-

So they remove some of the utility that folks have listed, on the off chance that suckers won't be taken advantage of as much, maybe.

Why is that their job in the first place? [huh]
