a STiTCH in Time saves my A-2...heLP!

i wrote this to member FISHMEOK, the impressive guy who has been building his own a-2s and sharing the pix and info with us on the forum...i wrote him this question and would also ask anyone who can add anything to answer me as well...i appreciate it:

hi, thought you were the guy to ask this question of, especially since i saw your remarkable work on the jackets you were making...

i just got a 'defect' jacket on ebay...it is a totally new milspec 'orchard/garment brands' govt contract a-2...it still has the tags on it, nothing wrong anywhere except for on thing, no stitching running down the inside of the windflap...thee is the seam on the outer edge/end of the windflap, that goes through both inner and outer pieces of leather, that holds the 2 pieces together, but on all these jackets there is also a line of stitching about 1 1/2" in on the other side of the windflap, which goes through the outer leather, the inside leather of the windflap, and finally through the liner on the inside

it seams (pun) really simple, and barini leather here in los angeles said they could replicate the manufacturer's stitching on the jacket...it obviously doesn't need the liner opened as the stitching goes straight through the 2 pieces of leather and the liner...it doesn't even turn any corners

my question to you as quite a coat builder is: is there anything i should be aware of when having barini do this? they are good, but i just want to be sure i cover all bases as i love this jacket, otherwise i wouldn't be going to this trouble as i could have returned it (on ebay)

Just make sure they use the same color, weight of thread and stitch length. it will litereally take longer to set the machine up than to run the stitch.

Simple top-stitching. Make sure they use a compatible thread and a similar stitch-count, as Fishmeok says. This is a job the machinist should do last. A clear 'Friday afternoon job'. You shouldn't see the difference and Barini shouldn't charge you more than $10. That's my estimate, of course.
