Trouble is, I'm afraid the old saying "Like a bull in a china shop" would be replaced with "Like Tony on a dance floor." lol

We'll figure something out, though. Working from 7PM to 2AM nearly every night puts a dent in one's night life, unfortunately.

And this is “My Two Cense”

Ah, the idea of having an actual “Fedora Lounge” is quite interesting. My self, I’m not a big fan of Clubs… unless, a very classy place is found for it. I’ve had this idea for a long time that it would be grand to have a large ballroom, streamlined in every corner… classy and smooth with live Big Band music and cozy corner booths for couples… yeah, nice idea. I’d call it the Galaxy Ballroom which would have a strong late 30’s space travel theme to it. But, this is just a dream and well, it will remain in dreamland.

Now, a Real Lounge isn’t really my type of atmosphere. I don’t drink and I don’t smoke… and the late 40’s to 60’s Lounge style is so not me. To have a fedora club would be cool, a place where you can sit, read, discuss in one room or, have an old fashioned or an ice cream soda in another room where a Juke Box is that has a large variety of vintage music to dance to. Art Deco or streamlined would be my ideal décor! Rounded corners, glass bricks, high ceilings with long slender inverted dish light fixtures, marble floors, tall windows, chrome streamlined vent grills and all the works with large art deco murals would be impressive! Maybe with light mint green walls, white trim, and dark forest green floors… oooh, sounds nice!

Any one here seen the movie “My Man Godfrey”? The club he made out of the city dump is ideal! I like the overall décor and use of streamline with neon lighting! So cool!

The closest things we have to a Fedora Lounge in Denver (as far as I know) are the Turnverein and Maggiano's.

The Turn is a historic building. It's smoke- and alcohol-free; they have swing dancing there on Fridays. The music isn't as loud as it is at most clubs--you can have a conversation without having to shout. The only bar there is an "honor bar" for soda, bottled tea or water. I like the friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

Maggiano's is an Italian restaurant, nicely decorated in wood and (I think) marble. The downtown Denver location has a beautiful patio and they play Sinatra songs. They even serve some of their dishes family style.

I'm not sure how a dress code would play in either place. Denver has never been a dressy place, but it would be so unusual here that it might get a niche following.

What a lovely picture! Such a place would come in handy in converting others!

Fedora Lounge Dream

I wonder if anyone else has had a lovely dream where they came across the fedora lounge and it's a real lounge? What would the decor be like?I see it as having huge tiffany style lights on the ceiling.A big mahogany staircase, leather sofas etc.

This thread really made me think about starting an art deco lounge in Prague. In some time, I may know exactly the right people to support this kind of bussiness. Who knows, maybe in a few years...
There´s no way it can be so stylish and luxury as The Cicada, but... We all can have dreams :)

The "true" Fedora Lounge could never be in a mall. Has to be a grand old edifice like the Oviatt or the Montauk Club.
But I keep wondering if there are places in various ares of the country where meet ups seem to happen on a regular basis that could become part time Fedora Lounges.
I'd be curious to know what places around the country and around the world members would LIKE to have a meet up in, assuming you could give a magic bus ride to everyone right to the front door. The Wrigley mansion in Phoenix for instance, right, Chippies? And of course The Montauk Club and the Oyster Bar here in NY (among others) but where else in the world?

There are actually two locations here in Houston, one inner-loop, and one on the west side of town.

I've been to the inner-loop location as it's very near where I live, and a pretty nice place to have drink.

I've always thought a Las Vegas Casino in the theme of a Speak-easy would be pretty fabulous. A recreation of the Cotton Club might be cool too!
That would be pretty cool--but it needs more to do than just the casino. Virtual-reality G-man simulation (like, particularly a reenactment of the FBI hit on Dillinger for one) and maybe a modest range with Choppers in the basement for that complete "tools of the trade" experience, maybe? We have New York New York, so why not a Chicago joint next, connecting the two with Els built to look like the 20th Century and Broadway Limited?

I had no idea that the Brown derby still existed, as I thought it had been demolished many years ago. Perhaps I was thinking of some other restaurant in Hollywood.

What about The Edison in downtown LA? I have yet to make it there.

What if was a chain of non-alike establishments?

I'd like to see it decorated with dark wood, granite tile, and ceiling fans, with a band stand, a dance floor, a bar and a dining room. .

A King Solomon-esque declaration would say "Yes, they are all The Fedora Lounge".

I'm sure I've read a work of fiction I once read that touchs on this concept, but like the tone of these forums, each FL would be as different from the other as proverbial snowflakes, yet all of them equally define the Fedora Lounge.

The trick would be to have them all contiguous, a feat best left to the Real Estate magicians.

I see that the pictures for inspiration are not strictly in Art Deco, so I may enter with my two cents - This is more like Art Nouveau/Art Deco fusion, but more Nouveau, all from the Municipal House, Prague:

(ok, the last one is inspired by traditional folk architecture, but is still Art Nouveau style)
