Man, my date for prom coordinated the car we took to go with my dress but wore a powder blue tux with the rest of his friends in an attempt to be funny.

Needless to say, I was not impressed. lol

Kudos to you for putting effort into making the evening memorable! I say you both should wear what makes you happy, be it tails or a cocktail dress. Have fun!

Please pardon a man's advice when none was asked.

However, if I may finish the thought several of the ladies have expressed "it is her prom..." therefore, you, as a gentleman, should do your utmost to make her feel comfortable and have a good time, taking your cues from her. In trying to remake her thoughts on what should be worn, and send her signals that she is making inappropriate choices in attire for the evening, you may be missing the signals she is sending you about your choice.

If she wants to wear a lovely cocktail dress (that she won't have to ebay the next day), then you might consider changing your own choice to a dinner suit, rather than tails. A gentleman finds out the dressing parameters from his date, and then, as her escort, dresses himself to please her and make her shine on what is an important occasion. It's the difference between:

"I'm wearing tails. Go get a gown."

And

"You will make whatever you wear look like dynamite. Let me know what you choose so I can pick something complimentary."

The first makes her unhappy. The second will probably still have her sighing when she's 60.

Oh, you heartbreaker! What you said there will still have me sighing when I'm 60! ;) :eusa_clap

Not a problem at all, old sport. Glad to have some input from another one of the b'hoys.

I don't think I was ordering her to get a gown, I was just looking for approval of the Lounge or anyone substantially objected.

Heh. We've decided to coordinate a bit, but only because she was alredy looking to get a black dress xD!!!

She has decided on a cocktail dress, and, to be honest, I really do think she'll look absolutely gorgeous in it.

If she gets a black dress with some colour accents, I'll definitely get a pocket square in the same colour. I think it'll look loads better than a similar colour waistcoat or whatever kids these days are doing ;)

Once again girls, and scotrace ;), thank you very much for your help.

I can't wait 'til prom :3

A bit of news so as to create some closure on the subject.

She finally found a dress, and I really think it looks perfect.

It's mostly black satin (a bit of black lace about the hem) with ruffles and a white bow tie about the top.

She inadvertently bought it too, as she didn't know that I would be wearing a white bow tie xD!!!!

Looks as if we shall be matching after all :D

Here's a photo:

I knew I should have trusted her more...

That is a classy, beautiful dress. Please post a pic of both of you on Prom night!
I never got to Prom, I got kicked out of high school in Junior year. So let me live vicariously through yours...

Was that necessary :

It wasn't meant to be rude. One of my friends was one of the people who wore a dress like that and she looked great.

Everyone on this forum seems really, really touchy.
