Moonshine.

One of the books in the Foxfire series had a great article on how to build a still and how to make the moonshine along with some astounding stories.

Homebrewing was legalized in the late 70's and there is a process that you can go thru to get a permit to make a small amount of hard liquor at home for family use.

Careful - Careful

I do not believe that the Feds allow ANY distilling of spirits no matter what the quantity. Brewing of beer and making wine in limited quantities yes. Spirits, I dont think so!!!! With the jails full of cocaine, heroin, and marijuana dealers, who wants to share a cell with a moonshiner. Hell, its bad enough to be there, why not follow deanglens advice and burn it in your car.

My uncle stumbled up on one that was active near Helen, Georgia.

He took off as fast as he could run.

Helen Ga. is a fine place to enjoy oneself, especially during Oktoberfest. :) :D

How odd the conversation would turn this way...

I went to a small Methodist college thirty miles and two valleys west of Helen called Young Harris. It was, coincidentally, the place where my lips first touched 'shine, nigh on some twenty-mumble- years ago... That stuff'd burn a blue flame alright! :eusa_clap
Helen was the nearest place to buy tax paid spirits at the time.
Now crazy ex- Governor and Young Harris native Zell Miller has built a golf course & resort in the Brasstown valley the liquor flows freely.

lol

Good Grief! Why would any self-respecting moonshiner get a permit?

Anywho, anyone know when this movie is comin' out?

Rick I am familiar with Young Harris. I also went to a small college in Carrollton Ga. "West Georgia College". At the time the county was dry, we would either head over to Alabama or back to Atlanta. Now the fine folks down at the Baptist Church sold shine from the back of their trunks on Sundays. Up until a State Senators child got busted for alcohol on campus by some of the same folks that pedaled their spirits on Sundays. To make a long story short the Senator made a few call and their were some raids and the county soon went wet. lol

;) Everybody there is related to everybody there... due to what's known in these parts as high relative humidity.

Hey, I resemble that remark! Not really, but a great, great grandfather did marry a step-sister or some-such; no blood relation to each other, but separate children of a widow and widower who married. It does look funny on paper, though.

But, hey,... "Long as I'm not my own daddy, I'm OK."
