A little bit torn

Hi all,

I'm thinking about sending my Stetson Eagle to Optimo to get a cleaning/reblock and I'm a little torn about getting the leather sweat band replaced while it's there. Currently it has the original sweatband in it with the stetson coat of arms pressed into it and the union label and original size tag underneath the band. Also the initials of (I assume) the previous owner are punched out in the band as well. I think this gives it some class and history, but the filament has come out of the sweatband at the back (ebay items are sold as is :) ) and is barely visible while wearing it but when you take it off and show off the liner logo is very blatant. I'm looking for your opinions on whether I should keep the original or have optimo replace it for better looks.

Sincerely,
Rob

I like keeping thigs as is, though for the sake of longevity there are times when you have to get sweatbands replaced. Same goes for my 1930's grey Borsalino... it is dry as cardboard and is begening to crack... time for a new sweatband. If you are goiung to have the sweatband swapped out you can always get a modern Stetson band with the logo... they have high and low quality available, You can't go wrong with what Graham provides as his leathers are soft enough to roll up with a hat and so far I haven't seen any trouble over the last 2 years. He will also do the old fashioned initials in punched holes if you desire (my favorite style).

Best case is if he can repair the leather band, though their is no shame in replacing a leather band that is past it's prime.

Hi to all,
to keep on the original sweat and the liner is a great thing, yes it is.
I've asked to my hatter to replace the sweat,it is very dry how Matt says, th liner is in very good condition. But I 've asked to give the original sweat to me, so i can...see it and remember my hat's story.
Best regards.
Riccardo.

I like the idea of keeping the sweatband if possible, I didn't know there were ways to repair the actual band. I'll have to see what Graham says about it when I send it off later. If worse comes to worse I like Riccardos idea of keeping the sweatband with the hat anyway.

Thanks for the input!

Rob
