SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY

The National Cathedral is proud to present Jacob Arminius vs. John Calvin in a no-holds barred sanctuary cage match.

John says the outcome is pre-determined but Jacob has a mind of his own..... :D

Tell Martin he has to tear down all those flyers he's nailed up on the doors by Monday night latest, mmmkay?

I think about things like this often. My parents met on the off-chance that they were both in Quito, Ecuador at the same time. My dad was living there (being a bum hippie after college selling Panama hats! ;)) and my mom was there on business. They were from opposite sides of the United States, so they never would have met had they not been in South America at the same time.

I also think about how I never would have met my boyfriend (and who I think is the love of my life) had his mom not been very courageous (in my eyes, at least) and snuck across the border at 8 months pregnant. Had she been caught, or her husband didn't make it across in the first place, my boyfriend would be living in Mexico right now and we would never know each other existed.

Whenever we talk about this he always mentions how he probably would have been a totally different person had he grown up in Mexico. He thinks he would be married with kids right now, like most of his cousins are. He doesn't think he would've gotten the chance to be into vintage, or punk, or art.

It's so strange how much of us really is determined by our environments and the times/places we live in. It's kind of spooky how much really isn't under control.

I frequently think about this. About the incredible and complex long sequence of events that led to any person actually being born. Think of all the chance meetings that led to reproduction and then the good fortune of your ancestors in living long enough to have children that also avoided death long enough...etc.

Then of course, if the asteroid hadn't killed off the dinosaurs allowing mammals to evolve.... Just so Paris Hilton could whine about her 45 day sentence. lol
