This is my Barbour - I wanted to move away from the Trailmaster style It's still not especially comfortable and the quality of Barbour seems pretty ordinary. This one is meant to be extra thick but the lining is very thin and I can't see it being an heirloom piece despite their marketing nonsense.

I like the look of waxed cotton but it always ends up smelling nasty after a couple of years no matter how careful you are with airing the jacket etc. At least that’s my experience with Barbours.

nice style, :(I don't have long enough torso for longer jacket/ coat style.
I suppose if you buy waxed canvas only for the patina and look, we can just let the wax crinkled and wear down gradually and some exposed part get faded and worn... it defeats its water repelling purpose I guess

Yes, it defeats the point of them and they tear if they are not kept waxed.

A tool box that has exclusively hammers, or exclusively wrenches isn’t much use at all. Heck, you might need a pipe wrench once a year but you’ll be glad you have it when you do. My N1 is a screw driver, my Aero half belt a tape measurer. I suppose the Anj-4 is the pipe wrench in this story....I NEED a new anj.

I actually find wearing a denim jacket harder. I don't like the denim on denim look and considering I am wearing jeans most of the time...

So for this reason I have not bought either a denim jacket or shirt in a very long time

I've been much the same for years. I'm open to denim now, but I can't find one I like at a price I'm prepared to pay. I really am so over type 3s.

Interestingly, I also have realised in recent years that I *really* dislike denim 'fades'.

I’m somewhat the opposite of you Barnabus. I love checking out new denim jackets and I have bought more of them than I have leather ones over the last year. Whenever I go to leave the house though I find myself grabbing one of my leather jackets. Wearing denim almost feels like a missed opportunity to wear leather instead.

For me denim always feels significantly less ostentatious. I love to wear leather jackets but they need to be suitable to an occasion (at least for me). I used to wear my Aero's to work but even that became, I don't know, uncomfortable. For whatever reason I don't have the self conscious nagging with denim that I do with leather. They develop every bit, if not more character, than most leather jackets:

There's absolutely room for both but in terms of being something I wear regularly, there is no comparison. 10:1 Denim over leather for me.

with denim, I'm always afraid to get too far with fades, I like some kind of light fading, but when gone too pale I dislike it, when it arrives at the state of fade like that sufu member's type2 I don't think it can be worn with jeans anymore probably can only be worn with chino or cargo, while leather jacket in that state of fade will be wearable with ANYTHING but it takes ages for leather to get that kind of fade.

^^ I do this as well...but I have more than enough. :)

Due primarily to weather turning colder, I have been working on the "break in" jacket by wearing it under a larger, synthetic jacket. Seems to work out well and is quite a bit less noticeable that way.

Having a hard time on sizing with IH. I’d love to get a type III heavy denim like yours but the shoulder/waist ratio on paper looks crazy. What size do you get Ton? Do you order from IH or SE?

My name is Barnabus, and I prefer wearing waxed cotton and denim to leather jackets. There.

I like to look at leather jackets. I like how they age and patinate, and build different character dependent on the wearer. But when I wear one I never feel comfortable. I never feel that I'm not just dressing up.

I keep buying them though, ofc. But then don't wear them and so sell them again. Whereas when I buy a denim jacket I'll wear it all the time. Or waxed cotton.

They patinate almost as much/as well, but they're so much easier to wear. And there's just as much timeless appeal as a leather jacket too!

>gasp!<
Breaking the jacket in is a difficult strenuous procedure, after this is done you have a comfortable companion to share life with. It just sounds like you haven't experienced this process yet. I believe in you though. Being a die hard leather jacket wearer isn't for the faint of heart. Every one cant be a marine, everyone cant wear leather jackets. Life goes on

I’ve ordered from both IH and SE. I can wear a 42”XL or a 44”XXL in the type III. The measurements they provide are almost always wrong. Although I did find SE to be more accurate. The nice thing about ordering direct from IH is the delivery return process. 3 day delivery and super easy returns.
