A casual, modern opinion on the fedora...

I found this video the other day.
It's a type of interview I guess, it's a guy telling about his like of fedoras.

I noticed that he is a little...off...no doubt he's just not as much of a freak as many of us are lol ...first off, he is associating a wide-brim, high-crown fedora with the 1950's. He also mentions Humphrey Bogart movies as being 1950's. We all know that Bogart was in poor health during the 50's.

And he says (in an outrageous tone) tha the paid $30 for the hat. Now that's crazy :)

But, his intentions seem to be good. Like us, he is trying to bring back a better time. He even makes several negative comments to the "Britney Spears generation".

It's interesting to see his take on the Golden Era, albeit a bit blurred.

I'll post this in the Golden Era forum, too.

For some odd reason, most people's knowledge of the early 20th century gets dropped wholesale into the '50s, as if there was nothing going on prior to that except for the stock market crash, flappers, WWI, and the Titanic disaster. Everything else gets shifted up into the '50s. I've been dressed in distinctly '30s styles in the past and got all sorts of 'You're into the '50s, huh?' comments.

...I've heard some people ask if WWII happened in the '60s. :eusa_doh:

Guy's moving in the right direction, though. Good on 'im. Hopefully he'll start digging deeper and learn more.

The fedora is an outdated piece of antiquity to most people.
If anyone has comments about the hat that are in the ballpark I'd call it fair.

Hell, the '30s are an outdated piece of antiquity to most people. And why not - if they go by tv, it was a vast litter box of misery and privation with a tissue of Hollywood gossamer on top - about as relevant to us today as the Black Death. :rage: No wonder they push the good stuff up into an era when good stuff makes sense.
