A better black hat for me...

At the eventual price, I couldn't resist this black Stephen. L. Stetson hat...with 5" crown and 2 7/8 brim, I should be stylin' soon!

The other black hat I bought recently (Biltmore Senator) is probably either wool or a wool/felt blend at best. It still looks fine, but the crown is a bit lower than I usually wear. I'm thinking this will be a better quality hat.

Here's the auction.

Here's the hat:

Comments? I know there have been some Stephen Stetson hats acquired by members here in the past.

"Hey there Pilgrim"

in my best 'John Wayne' voice, thats a great looking hat.
It has that fedora look to me. I know most of you know what I'm talking about. You can see alot of good looking hats, but not all have a fedora look to them.
Wear it with PRIDE!

I followed that one and really wanted to bid on it since I have very few black hats (it is Florida, after all!), but I saw that you were already on it, and the Stephen Stetsons can be a bargain if there's no one-on-one eBay competition - no reason to drive it up with FL'ers...If I see a name I know, I back off so as to not artificially elevate the prices!

Congrats, Pilgrim! Wanna see some pics of it on ya when you get it...

That is one nice hat especialy with such a large brim . It's probably from the 1940's as this company didn't last too long after that . John B stetson took them to court over the name and won .

Yep, that's a goodun...

I noodled sticking a bid on that one, and decided to pass 'cause I've already got a black Steven L. Stetson, albeit with shorter brim. The feel of mine is similar to other good mid-line hats from the '40s -- Adam, Lee, Beaver, Wormser, etc.

Any idea what kind of edge treatment?

Not yet, but it should be revealed late this week or early next!

I can't even go back and lok at the third pic in the auction, because it has already been pulled.

Hmmm... I thought all they won was to make the Stephen Stetson Company put that long disclaimer in their hats about not being connected in any way to the John B. Stetson Company.
Sounds kind of silly really as a lawsuit because, by all accounts, Stephen and John started at nearly the same time. One just got bigger faster. [huh]

J
