Just wondering, did you file a warranty claim with Frye on the issues mentioned? Reason being, after researching everything I can find, I'm looking twice at the Logan Cap Toes as they seem to check all the boxes for me.

I can speak to the Frye Logans and the Red Wing Iron Rangers. The Frye's are supremely comfortable right out of the box, and look very good. Until the heel falls off -- which happened to mine about 6 months after I purchased them. Before the heel popped off, they had fraying stitching in multiple spots. I wore them no more than once a week or so, so for the money, they are atrociously built. And keep in mind that I only wore them casually and into the office, so it is not like I beat them up or did any real "work" in them. That said, I have a moc toe boot from Frye (I believe it is called the Dakota), that has been an excellent boot. Over the years I have found that Frye's really are hit or miss, depending on the style.

I thought about a warranty claim, but I decided that best case, I would get a new pair of the same boot. That boot, in my opinion, had an issue, so I decided to accept store credit for the purchase price from the place I purchased them from rather than take a chance on the same boot again. I assume they sent them back to Frye for credit/refund as well. That the store offered me credit indicates that they knew Frye would take care of them. If you like the Logans, I say go for it. Monetarily speaking, I don't think you'll get burned even if you have an issue down the road.

I've been in contact with Whites and while they can provide what I'm looking for in sizing, sole and appearance, they stated vegetable tanned leather wasn't available. The search continues.

Retro,

While I have never been in a motorcycle accident, I did fracture and sprain my ankle many years ago and certain footwear is unwearable for me due to the injury. I have three pairs of White's and I find all to be exceptionally comfortable.

I'm not sure why you prefer veg tanned, but one possible downside is that I have heard veg tanned leather isn't as water repellent as chrome tanned. White's originally built their boots for walking through the woods fighting fires and timbering. If veg tanned was more durable or offered some superiority to chrome tanned, I'm sure White's would use it.

My ankle was also fractured along with serious ligament/tendon damage. As I get older the flexibility is just not there any longer. I typically have to switch shoes often just to give the ankle a change to deal with which seems to help. Thanks for the Whites comfort info, good to know.

In my search, I've stumbled across "Dayton" Boots and their "Parade Boot" model looks interesting. I've requested information from them, waiting for an answer. Has anyone any experience with "Dayton"? If I can get the leather I'm interested in, this boot looks to be a solid contender.

Those parade boots are pretty nice.
Off topic but what type of leather is used in those viberg service boots? Is that what you are looking for?

It appears the Viberg SB is available in several types of leather. That said, while Viberg certainly makes a very nice looking boot, they're out of my price range.

Thinking back on these type of boots... I think theres a WW2 repro company that does a vegetable tanned boot
There is WW2 impressions for $230
And at the front for $110 http://www.atthefrontshop.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=USFSS
ATF I believe its noted that its chrome tanned, impressions has a veg retan?
Anyway did you already find what you were looking for
