Not much with period fashion, but mostly on 1950-1970 architecture and design and lifestyle.

I suppose there could be other forums elsewhere with more information on those eras. Still, I think the FL still has a decent number of threads. I'd consider anything from the turn of the century to the 1960's here fair game.

Thanks for the lotta living link, that's great!

I did wonder why there wasn't an "Atomic Age" subforum here to complement the "Golden Age" one. Hey, Fedoras were worn then too. I figured it was a style thing.

Thanks for the Cad, fun stuff.

I would agree. But if there really were a Lounge devoted to that period, I would prefer to have it stop at 1963, Nov. 22, 1963, to be exact.

Curious, why the Kennedy assassination? Surely Camelot's influence on style lasted for a few more years..

It wasn't a question of mere style. You can't grasp how the whole world was shattered by that event if you weren't around at the time. Nothing has been the same since.
And the Beatles (much as I always did and always will love them) were on Ed Sullivan in Jan 1964.

For me, the cut off is Dec 31, 1966, though of course there are a few things that straggled into 68 and 69 that I love, but if someone asked me, 'define your 60s,' it would be 1959 through 1966. After all, Batman came on in '66, didn't it? And Our Man Flint was 66, too. No, there were too many things that defined the good 60s to cut it off at Dallas.

Well, dhermann1 kind of nailed it down; that date, along with being literally very important, was also symbolically so. The idealism of the post-WWII era was shattered that day (and following) in Dallas, as the U.S. entered its full adulthood. In addition, piggybacking on dhermann1's comments, the British Invasion was just about to burst upon the U.S., signalling the demise of the Rat Pack-type of music and clothing styles. I agree with Senator Jack that there were some good things after 1963, but despite Bat Man, Our Man Flint, the Tony Rome and Matt Helm films, etc., by 1965 the tide had turned with the first orchestrated anti-Vietnam War demonstrations, and the noticeable rise of drug-use on college campuses. And, yes, Camelot's influence on style continued for a while, but the mini skirt and Peacock tie were rapidly closing in. My 2 cents...

Man, I dig the mini-skirt. :eusa_clap

In other debates, were The Smothers Brothers good or bad 60s? What about Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In? Again, I think both represent the quintessential 'nation in transition.' Star Trek, The Prisoner, the biker pictures of American International. I like that 60s as much as the pre-Dallas era.
