I like crap. But it has to be vintage crap.

The n00b writing that would probably be surprised to find that a Catalin radio isn't something you just snag down at the flea market. A good one will cost you as much as a high-mileage used car.

This is a really well done piece. First of all, it's a great list. But second, if you click on each item in the list, it takes you to a page with a well chosen list of online articles on the subject, and a half page of links to current auctions on Ebay, for typical items of the category, from high priced down to lower priced. Very nicely done!

2. Hot Wheels The original "sweet 16" from 1968 included a Chevy Camaro, a VW Bug, and a concept pickup called the Dodge Deora.

:)Yep, I had many of the original 1968-77 "Redliners" when I was a kid. They were so called because of the red sidewalls on the wheels. To this day I'm still an avid collector. One of the "Holy Grail" cars among the redliners that's much sought after by collectors is the Classic Cord, a 1937 Cord which was produced in 1971.

Unfortunately, I had a mint Snake & Mongoose race track with the little drag chute assembly at the end. I just out grew toys right then, [discovered girls, all down hill since] sold it for $0.50 at a garage sale! Sadly, I didn't have any of the cool lunch pales, we all carried the construction worker black pales, looked like a bunch of little construction workers going to the job sight!

We had those construction worker type lunch pails too. There was also a Disney school bus version of it which is now highly collectible. I think I even had it.

One of the Hot Wheels that I wanted but never got was the Road King playset from 1976. It had a tractor-trailer truck that you placed on a molded highway scenery with a built-in track. When you turned a crank the truck would go around the track. I still remember like it was yesterday seeing them in the toy department of Montgomery Ward. Now the truck alone is worth $600!

Correction: The Hot Wheels '37 Cord was called the Custom Cord

I'd like to see someone strutting down the street with a Majestic cathedral strapped on their back.

Are either of these close enough for you, Lizzie?

True story: In October 2008 I traveled to Ivanovo, Russia. Late one evening a few of us decided to go find something to eat, we found a cafe, and had omelette's (only thing we could read on the menu to identify what it was), coffee and tea. While walking back to our hotel circa 11 at night we were passed by a young Russian man with a stereo about that size playing I think it was "Red Hot Chili Peppers". Possibly one of the strangest sights I've seen in two trips to Russia. This kid couldn't have been born when the stereo he was blasting was manufactured...

Oh oh!! I just found what the mister can get me for Christmas! Poking around eBay from the TV lamps listing in the article, and I found one *exactly* like one my aunt owned when I was little. I *loved* that lamp so much.

Just plugging in and turning on a Catalin radio, sends the Catalin radio collectors into cardiac arrest.

Why I don't bother with Catalin radios. Other than the cases, there is nothing special about them (and I collect antique radios) I'd love to find one cheap and sell it to someone who is willing to part with their $$$$

Just my 2 cents.
