30's Half Belt vs. Premier Highwayman

Hello!

I just got a new Premier Highwayman in Cordovan Steerhide and I can't decide if I like it more than my trusty (one year) old Half Belt in brown CXHH. I wanted a new one because the Half Belt still is a little tight at my chest and my shoulders.
Otherwise I like it a lot, the leather is perfectly broken in and as soft as it will get.
The Highwayman feels very good, a little more room at the shoulders and chest, but also a little more room at the belly (would prefer it tighter). Love the slimmer sleeves and the leather! Also like the clean back, while the Half Belt looks great too, more vintage.

Pictures are not good. Cloudy, selfie, but I think they show how the jackets fit.

So, what do you think? I will only keep one. Or go for a Sheene?

Thanks for your help and honest opinion!

Personally I think the Highwayman suits you better but the classic solution is to keep both. The colour of the jackets looks similar but that is probably my monitor.I've never considered a Highwayman but that is a beauty.

I think the pit to pit on the HB is too tight judging by the wrinkles. The PHWYMN is a great looking jacket on you. I think you will come to love the steerhide!

Thank you for your quick replies!

Both Jackets are standard, Half Belt size 38, Prem. HYMN size 40.

Sadly, there's no way to keep both. My self imposed limit is one brown/cordovan and one black jacket (in that price range). So it should also be versatile. That's why my wife votes for the HYMN, because it looks more "modern".
But there is still some room in the belly, so maybe a Sheene or a more tapered pattern would suit me better. But the jacket is new, so I don't know how the leather will develop.

Keep on posting your thoughts!

Thanks, Angel

I tried on a size 36 cordovan FQHH HWMN a few weeks back and I've got to say that I was really taken with it - it was a really stylish looking, practical jacket. The previous HWMN was an old regime thing and really didn't hold a candle to it in terms of leather and fit.

I think the fit looks very good on both. The 1/2 looks good, but there is no fair way to compare a broken in jacket against a new one. I like the color and the back better on the Hwymn.
I'm suppose that is essentially zero help.

Was it technovox that has a Sheene specced out like a HWM, that might be a solution, more room the the chest and shoulders, less in the belly.

Fit looks great on both. Don't see too many of the Premier HWM in the Wild; I like them a lot. I think it's an ideal model for those who want something 'cleaner' than a 30s HB, or like a HWM but neater fitting.

Has the fit changed at all since 2012? I love my regular HWM, but it was one of the first apprentice made jackets when Ken took on new trainees in 2012, so I don't have a Lauder-era comparison.

It’s a real coin toss. I’ll say I’m a big Highwayman fan, but the 30’s half belt looks best for your frame IMHO. The real question is which one makes you feel the best. Don’t get too cerebral, go with the one the little vestigial part of your brain tells you to.

I wouldn’t go with a Sheen if I were you. The shoulders are a good deal wider, theselook best for your frame in my opinion.

Hello and thanks to all!

A lot of helpful thoughts. At the moment I'm thinking to keep the Highwayman. I like it a lot and hope it will develop as well as the horsehide Half Belt.

There are still a lot of interesting options out there: Leither has a beautiful button cuff Sheene,
a Seven with HWMN back would also look great, the ELMC jackets postet here always blow me away...

But I think I would regret letting this beauty go, and I will not easily find another jacket that is as close to what I want at a sales price or used. But as most of you will understand I am too looking for the "perfect" jacket. But what is perfect? ;)

Keep on sharing your thoughts, I'll let you know when I made the final decision.

Cheers,
Angel

Seeing this makes me really want a premier highwayman! I’d keep the hwm! Half belt does look a little tight in the chest, and that won’t go away. I think you’ll reach for the hwm a lot more often than the half belt for that reason alone.

Highwayman looks great. Pretty much perfect.

How long is the collar point on the Premiere Highwayman?

Yes, the collar is quite impressive. When I saw it the first time I wasn't shure if it might be too big for my taste. But worn it looks ok to me. It almost got some kind of 60's vibe. I'll mesure it when I'm at home.
