Vintage ankle boots in brown I would imagine to be tough to get a hold of, especially in a 13, the iron rangers im wearing are close to the style I want. I choose to go modern and affordable until im able to get something more to my liking, id love a pair of julians or even whites. Im hoping to find a deal on a pair of the gentleman travelers, for the same reason you mentioned, lower ankle. I hope you find a pair of what your looking for highway blues. ;)

Am trying to decide on which pair of the following workboots to go with:
high end= viberg 2030 last brogue cap toe service boots, Alden barrie last punch cap toes (like the ones jcrew sells)
Med price= oak street bootmakers cap toe trench boots
Low price= WWII Impressions boondockers

I can literally get both the boondockers and the osb trench boots for less than the price of one pair of Vibergs, but the Vibergs are effing amazing, so I dunno...

I have a pair of Whites so I've ruled those out; if you can think of any others that have a lower profile, dress toe I'm interested to hear about em:)

Any thoughts?

And if anyone is thinking of parting with some 10Ds, pls keep me in mind;)

Boots and leather jackets are like a sickness for me!

If I had the funds julians would be my first pick, if not, second pick would be whites, if I already had a pair of whites then viberg would be my third way to go. The pics ive seen after a pair of vibergs have been well worn, pure beauty.

Thats my two cents bretron
My last share of pics are a pair of 10's that I dont even fit, I just thought they were too nice to pass up. Anyway if anybody would be willing to take em off my hands id be glad to let them go bretron ;)

Yup, that's me ,too,pinesiw.
I chose the modern but leanin' toward a "period"
or maybe just more affordable, until i get what i want or at least find it

http://www.amazon.com/Delli-Aldo-Mi...r=1-2-catcorr&keywords=aldo+brown+ankle+boots

Those are what i got until a next more suitable pair
They are o.k. 'cept for the modern debossing on the outter ankle
You have those pair already? Ive went with a pair of pu leather boots before with rubber sole, didnt last very long but your boots are a good start for the price highway

Pinesiw, those cap toe are beautiful! Pm on its way;)

Juliens look amazing! Maybe if i could get a sample or old stock pair (or similar) i could consider em, but otherwise theyre way out of my league pricepoint wise. I was quoted $1200 of a pair of these, with a cap toe (in shell, but regardless crazy expensive)

Pinesiw, love Indy's but am more in the market for a plain or captoe boot. Btw- there's a pair in size 10 (so fit like a 10.5) on the bay right now for a practical bargain, item number 121118709458.

I can vouch for the quality of the OSBs, having owned a pair of the christy soled trail oxfords (http://oakstreetbootmakers.com/navy-vibram-sole-trail-oxford). There's a good argument to be had that these are as well crafted as Alden's and Whites. And reportedly they'll be doing future runs in some rare shell (natural, cigar perhaps).

That kind of simplicity in design is VERY expensive today. The typical boot buyer needs function, yes, but wants a high tech look that shows modern materials and construction. A design like this doesn't look functional to him, or even comfortable. So it goes!

So youre wearing a modern boot in a 13, have you ever tried on a red wing boot highway?
With most modern footwear im usually a 12 and a 13 in runners, but with any of the red wing boots I wear a size 11 perfect fit.

yup, a 13.
Redwing ? Nope, haven't tried.
RedWing store for me is a bit outta the way (distance) & may very well be $-wise as well.

Not sure if this is he thread for this, but here goes: Well, I finally broke down and got a pair of Iron Rangers. I love these boots, but never cared for the rubber sole/ heel and the soft leather uppers. Then the other day I was cruising eBay and came across these - they were an exclusive build for JCrew, and it's like they asked me what I didn't like about the Iron Ranger and changed it accordingly. Thick, stiff tan leather, leather soles with rubber half soles, and even stacked leather heels with Vibram rubber heel caps. When the time comes for a resole, I will have a double midsole added, and these should be even better. I even got 'em for a good price. The first and fourth images show he most accurate color:

Art, I am really happy with mine - I normally wear a size 13 but these are a size 12 and they fit me perfectly. They are breaking in really gracefully, and I love the thicker, stiffer leather. I also love the color. Like I said, it's like Red Wing asked what my perfect Iron Ranger would be and made it for me.
