Just got back from three very warm and humid days in NYC, my first visit in 3-years and my first visit in the summer in 20+years. I was realy surprised by the number of Panama's and knock-offs I saw being warn around lower Manhattan, Tribecca and Soho. Is that a new trend or old news? When I head back this fall or winter, will I see as many felt hats?

Thanks,

Doublegun

No, most of the ones being worn are ten-buck cheapos purchased from street vendors, and the vendors have (so far) not offered a similar felt option.

Now, you might see the same people wearing their "straw" hats come the cooler weather.

We sell hats in the UK and it's notable how many people retire their cheap straw hats for a proper panama. We've thought about having a tombstone shaped box for the hats to be interred, a sort of graveyard of bad style.
