Abosutely adore Coon-Sanders!!! I think it was Sanders who shaped the band's music. I read that he worked hard to develop flexibility in writing for the saxophone section and that he wrote most of the band's arrangements.
One of my favorite groups of the twenties. :D

And don't think I don't notice those saxes...yes, Joe paved the way for the hot sax soli chorus as featured by Joe Haymes, Benny Carter and many others.

Spooky Irony: Drummer Carleton Coon died of appendicitis May 4, 1932, the same day Joe Haymes had his first recording session. Haymes' drummer on the date was Jimmie Underwood, who died 2 months later of an infection caused by an abcessed tooth. :eek:
If they had been rock 'n rollers, you would have read this all over the urban legend sites ages ago.
