I wonder why it took Hatco so long to get the quality back to the way it was during the 1940's and 1950's. I just hope the public appreciates it.

Probably the same reason people trying to recreate Eastman-Kodaks Polaroid formula are having such a hard time. When they stopped making Polaroid film, they fired people, sold equipment and the process was pretty much lost with the people they let go. Then other smaller companies wanted to start making Polaroid film and had to reverse engineer some of the original stuff in order to get the original formula right. Same goes for Hatco......the original Stetson closed in the 70's. It had changed hands quite a few times, equipment was put away or decommissioned, people were let go and many of the old school processes were lost through the years. They are getting back to making the hats we all know and love because they now have dedicated people who believe that a hat is not just something you put on your head.....its a piece of art.

With all these really heartening things going on, I can't help wondering what the feelings are inside the industry. They wouldn't be putting all this time, money, and talent to use if they didn't suspect a resurgence of interest. This is all a very pleasant surprise.

besdor, that's a great question and like you, I sure hope the public appreciates and accepts it. And Josh great answer, very well said and exactly right! tropicalbob, I've got to agree with you too. If Hatco didn't think us hat wearers would be interested in this product and show it with our buying them, they wouldn't be producing this hat. There has to have been some research done to have inspired this decision by Hatco to revive this kind of quality hat. i'm glad to see this and like you it's heartening to me also. I hope there is a great resurgence of hat (fedora) wearing! I'd love to see it and be a part of it. Glad to see this happening!!

Nice looking hat, but I have a Bluegrass Akubra which fills the green need.

This on the other hand, I would buy. That one is great - even like the crease. Where can I get one of these???

There's certainly a market out there...somewhere. For example, Optimo runs two brick and mortar stores selling at $650 (or did they hit $700?). Perhaps the Premiere Strats was hatco dipping their foot in the water, so to speak. If the production run maintains the quality Josh has seen, I think $305 is a pretty reasonable price given the smaller market of custom makers, even if it's about twice as expensive as the average Stetson dress lid.

Oh, and I think I want Cordova.

I believe the grey hat Mr. Deckard is wearing in the lower photo is the Premier Stetsonian in the color called Caribou. I can say I love my Tawny Stetsonian (wore it yesterday in fact) and have been planning to buy one in Caribou eventually (wish it had a ribbon in a color other than black).

When I saw this Sage Strat on Matt's Instagram, I started searching the web for who was selling it. This review and the offer from Delmonico's have now moved the green hat ahead of the grey on my purchase list!

For Jao and the other Western fans, I know Stetson's doing a Boss Raw Edge anniversary special. Surely this upgraded felt will inspire more such offerings.

I thought and wrote something similar a while back, but after searching around, I found that this is not so:
"The ol' selfie, wearing the new Stetson Exposition."
I agree that it may be in Caribou color.

Does anyone have a photo of a Stetson fedora in Cordova? So far I believe I've only seen the standard sales pics. Is it darker or lighter than the Mink?
