Superfluous

We spend a lot of time here discussing outerwear from the 1930s - 60s, but the 1970s receive considerably less attention. A couple of Japanese brands recently announced/released some repros of leather jackets from the 1970s (or late 1960s). I personally prefer cleaner designs. That said, these are interesting jackets:

You mean you don't already have five on order? :D ;)

The thing about the 70s is they were very heavily influenced on the 30s styles

70's style, while groovy, isn't as timeless imo.

You can still wear a 30's to 60's cafe racer or half belt and not look like you are trying too hard but put on a 70's jacket and its a different story.

You may be right but.... It's pretty try hard wearing a 30's half-belt here around Melbourne - I have only ever seen one other than mine in a decade. 1970's jackets however you see a lot more of, especially a few years back. Nothing as overwrought and high camp as the above jackets but heaps of those wide lapel fight club jackets and 1970's utility jackets are, or certainly were de rigueur. I actually don't mind that look if it's not too overdone. But a cafe racer is so conservative that it has never really gone out of style so you are right about people not really noticing them.

I don't think the above jackets are overwrought or camp, the top one is particularly cool. [huh] I'm a fan of East West jackets:

This one, not so much:

I remember a lot of other grunge kids and punks wearing 70s "safari" cut leathers during my undergrad years, in part because they were available for peanuts in most charity shops. Used to wear my Dad's old leather blazer, an orginal c1975. Now strictly for Life on Mars parties only...

The thing with 70s for me is it seems silly to pay that much for things that I wear when I was a kid. Furthermore, there are plenty of good condition 70s jackets in thrift stores.
