1960s Cavanagh Stingy Brim Fedora

The ladies hat from the original play is - according to photographs - not at all like what we know as a fedora. The hat, the male character wears, looks a lot more like a fedora. The hat is probably called "a fedora" because of the play, called "Fedora".

The last statement is probably the most accurate (all about marketing)! :)

And Í think Oscar Wilde is the missing link in the Fedora tag for the flamboyant macho hat.

Back on topic I also think, with my old european perspective, that the Cavanagh is a Homburg. Or rather is as the Homburg álso was recognised before the ´Fedora´ tag was applied.
I am ok with naming it a Fedora to make communication on this predominantly US forum easier.

That black banded grey Homburg I am expecting I will refer to as the Poirot hat to friends. I am sure way more people will get the idea when you mention that than when you say Homburg. So what? I don't care as long as they get it and that is what communication is about.

9 minutes to go on an ebay hat, half attentive to put in a late bid and ... the phone rings.

As that was sure to be a lovely guest who is coming over saturday one has to have on's priorities right.
So I let it be at the token starting bid and had an entertaining, witty laugh with her, returning 5 minutes after the auction's ending.

SURPRISE as I had been the only bidder on this (about late fifties/early sixties?) Cavanagh Homburg.

Pristine, dark gray, Cavanagh edge, original box for beer money.
The lady brings luck :eusa_clap so maybe I should find a hat ending when she is here and have her bid ;)

You sure did!! and I did not hesistate one moment to follow it up.

The not-so-sniping worked out to perfection: Having a chaming, fun telephone conversation whíle winning a hat.

You have mail. You are all a gentleman. Thanks.
