I recently picked up this 1958 overcoat, it is bespoke made and the upper section is canvas lined. I know this as there were numerous rips and tears that needed some temporary attention before a tailor does a proper job.
The sleeve buttons are operable and even the buttonhole has a thread behind to keep a buttonhole in place, see photos.
I bought it in a charity shop, I looked once and nearly left it but then thought this is to good to leave!
Made for the owner of a North sea trawler fleet.
