Dad owned one of these when I was a kid. I helped him wash it. I loved all the chrome, the curves, the shapes. Best lookin' thing to ever come out of Flint, MI. Maybe the first shot is a Century.

Very nice! I think Buick and Oldsmobile had some of the best cars to come out of the 40s and 50s. Makes me wish my Dad kept his '55 Olds. Or any of his cars from before I was born.

That's a gorgeous car. Truly...wow.

Nice photography work, too (assuming those are your pictures).

Buick Portholes

Buick fans on the FL will be happy to note that portholes are returning to Buicks. The Lucerne V6 sports three portholes on each side and the Lucerne V8 has four. This is consistent with tradition...usually (but not always), three portholes denote the smaller engined Buicks, while the "four-holers" usually carry buick's largest engine.

Portholes first appeared on Buick's 1949 models and were used consistently through model year 1958. They disappeared for 1959 as Buick was trying to re-invent itself, but returned again in 1960. After that, they were an on again, off again feature until the 1980s when they more or less disappeared completely.

It's good to have portholed Buicks back again!

I've noted on other FL threads that my family were Oldsmobile "loyalists". My dad learned to drive in his uncle's 1958 Oldsmobile Super 88 Holiday Sedan....A chrome masterpiece.

They just don't make tail-lights like that anymore. Imagine all the wax and polish needed to get that beauty shining.

I still own what I consider a classic, the '76 Cutlass Supreme.
My last "modern-day" Olds was a 2001 Oldsmobile Bravada.
Needless to say, I traded it in last year when I bought my first Buick, a 2006 Buick Terraza.

GM incorporated many elements of the Oldsmobile into the current Buick line.
Olds Intrigue>Buick LaCrosse
Olds Aurora>Buick Lucerne
Olds Bravada>Buick Terraza

It was sad to see that piece of automotove history go. I strongly believe that GM axed the wrong division. It should have been the Pontaic... seldom see any of those dinosaurs on the roads these days. The Pontiac Grand Prix ain't what it used to be.....and it never held a candle to the Olds Cutlass or even the Buick Wildcat....which will be making a comeback in the Fall of 2008!!

Starting out above standard LaCrosse CXS territory, the Wildcat RWD sedan will be positioned as a Buick alternative to the Lexus GS and aimed toward young professionals and businessmen. The Buick Wildcat RWD will be a Buick ''want'' vehicle, the sportiest in the sedan lineup and the ultimate expression of Buick's renaissance!

'58 Olds

My best friend's dad had a '58 Olds Super 88 Fiesta Station Wagon (they had money!). I used to ride to school in that car whenever it was raining or snowing...otherwise we walked. What a car! Black with a white roof and a red interior. And all that chrome...

Undertaker, get those shots posted, love to see them. I think that Buick in the picture is a Special, but I'm not sure. At least that's what the lettering back on the rear fender appears to indicate.

That car is undeniable evidence that the fellows in Detroit have no idea what they're doing. Every time I see cars of the mid to late 50s era, I can't help but think that they're either way ahead of their time or we just aren't trying anymore.
