1950s Watches?

Besides the amazing Hamilton watches of the 1950s, what are some other cool watches from back then? I also like the Lord Elgin jump hour watches, but need more to choose from!

I tend to find most watches very boring to look at, which I why I haven't owned one in years. They all look exactly the same, which is often dull!

Well, cool is in the eye of the beholder.

I guess you're looking for "atomic"-type styling? There are an awful lot of makers that were making decent looking watches, of course, but the innards are mostly complete garbage.

Hamilton Ventura, or a Hamilton Pacemaker were very modern looking Watches in the late 1950's. There is a modern version of the Ventura that has a reliable quarz movement in it. the vintage Ventura with the electrical movement will be expensive, and service will be an issue. Here is a link to one that was sold, but it will give you and idea what they look like. Prices are very high though if you can find one.

Hi David,

If you read my original post, you will see that I already mentioned the Hamilton range of watches. The Ventura, Pacer, and others designed by Arbib are, in my opinion, as good as it gets for aesthetic watch styling. The only place I would by a repro Ventura is from Rene Rondeau, but I'm not sure I am willing to splash out $575 for one.
