I kind of had a feeling you would like that one. ;)

Here are some more to correct my wrong doing. :p

This next one take a CLOSE look at it. Do you see any one that looks familiar? And no, it has never been doctored in Photoshop. Tell me if you see a Wild Root in there. ;)

Much better WildRoot, Hawaii is my next destination; (well one day anyway)
I love the bathing suits of the 40's and a black chiffon dresses, like Rita Hayworth. Well done lad, cheers :cheers1:

Why thank you sir! See, I collect the good with the ugly. Have to have both sides of the table in the collection.

That photo was so ugly, the thrift shop gave it to me! Ahahahaha, how bad is that?

I've never seen a full service photo at a *ballroom*…at a pharmacy, of course, but nowadays most party goers seem to prefer their beverages a little stronger than your average phosphate, and so the soda fountain has fallen from favor! Of course, I myself prefer sodas when I'm out to cut a rug, so I would be ecstatic if I ever walked into a place like the one in that photo (sodas and leads galore--yippee!)

That person does look just like you, though! I wonder if we all have a vintage 'twin' out there somewhere, just waiting to be discovered?

Well yes I have been known to cut a mean rug! But, that photo is really from the 40's! It's not a new one. When was the last time you saw a full service soda fountain at a ballroom? And every one looking like a million? That guy is just some one who looks like me. Spooky yes?

As to the 40's slob guy I posted. I have no idea who that was. But, you can see a 1941 Dodge four door parked on the street. I found that photo at a thrift shop and I wanted it because I thought it was funny.

Cheers,

Root.

LOL as you can tell I'm having a few this evening (burp) I almost missed that were it not for "Doll" reminding me
Yeah Spooky, I think they call that Bizarro world, your twin but opposite personality. Very funny Root :cheers1:

Glad you guys enjoyed!

Funny thing about old photos. I strongly suggest you start look into old year books! You'll find that lost of them will have people who look like some friends of yours or maybe even family! It can get weird!

One time, (THIS STORY IS SCARY). Ok, one time, I was at Camp Hollywood in 1999 I think it was. Any way, it was on the nautical night and I wore my original WWII sailor suit. This is when CH was at the original Palladium in Hollywood. I was walking to the wash room and I saw a big poster sized photo of the ballroom full of dancers taken about 1942 just after the grand opening. This photo caught my eye! I looked at some of the couples and I saw lots of guys in sailor suits. This didn't shock me but what I did see was a chap who was in a sailor suit who was a dead ringer for me! I mean this guy looked just like me and he was looking at the camera too! So, I was looking at this photo in MY original sailor suit, at this guy in a photo who was looking at me in his sailor suit as we were in the SAME BUILDING!!! Sure it was just a photo but, that was just creepy and kind of neat at the same time.

Ok, just had to share that real quick.

Root.

I enjoy looking at old yearbooks from the 30s and 40s. I especially love how all the students look like 'students', and the teachers always seem to have that "school marm" look to them. Can be quite hilarious!

Found a junior high yearbook/memory book from the 1950s--oh my goodness I never laughed so hard! It belonged to a 13-year-old boy, who was apparently German and all his friends called him "Hitler" and said things like "watch out for the Nazi!" (I want to say the book dated to 1958). It was really sort of shocking to see that sort of sentiment show up in a teen's wish book from several years after the war! Anyway, some of the signatures in the book were pretty amusing too--stuff like "Leave some of the girls for me". Also, about half the girls wrote "2 good + 2 B=4 gotten" and equally cutesy sayings--reminded me of the goofy things I wrote in yearbooks when I was 13!

Interesting story Root! I've had freaky things happen to me, too--although perhaps none as distinct as your story. Remind me to tell ya sometime!

Yes, I agree with you! When I'm out dancing or even having a meal at Ruby's or some kind of 40's Diner I have a Coke! Some times a Lemon, coke or Vanilla coke, or an orange coke. I even like Chocolate Cokes! Oh boy I could go for one now!!!

Any way, it's a dream of mine to open a ballroom and have a full service soda fountain making all types of goodies at good prices too. Got to keep them dancers happy!

Root.

PS. I just found this photo. This is the one I saw my self in! It's too small to see much of anything but this is the photo the story comes from!

I think I can spot you in that photo, still have your hair, (hee, hee) well you've probably seen the Steven Spielberg movie "1941" whacky, fun film, enjoyed it, laughed at the part were the Lt. has girl in B-17 cockpit, showing how to fly, just rambling as the 40's sets into my head, turn back the hands of time.
Sodas and a nice gal to chat with makes sense, don't really drink much alcohol when out on the town, not a young kid anymore so can do without it. Vanilla coke, cherry cokes, hey cool, haven't tried chocolate cokes, sounds good. Its all about location and if theres a market (people) for it, live swing or big bands, for ballrooms, and add that soda fountain, which brings me back to "1941" cool scenes, ballroom dancing, funny, wish you luck. "ya all have a good weekend :cheers1:

My dad join the Navy at 15, not sure how old he was when war ended, he went from the Navy to the Army and then Air Force as Militray Police. All inmy family were in law enforcement, my Great grandfather who was in WWI was a Police Officer and Sheriff in L.A. before he retired, My Dad retired as Deputy U.S. Marshal, I owe alot to him, for a young kid he saw alot of fighting, his Capt. kept him under his wing, kind of like a father I was told.
i found this photo my dad gave me a while ago, hope to share more later.
This is a picture of my Dad while staioned in Okinawa, Japan afew years after the war.

THATS IT!

Hey nice photo buddy! I'd sure like to see more. You know, it has just occurred to me that what ever photo I post it is never of my family. I have some good ones and that's just silly of me not to post some. So, when I get a chance today, I'll scan in some of my family photos and share them.

Can't believe I haven't done this sooner!

This would be my ex-stepfathers grandfather and his sister. An involved relation, I know, And i'm not sure how we ended up with the photo - but I rather like it. Above the photo it says their names and ages, Marge 12 Bud 8.

And this one is my great-grandmother in front of her house. This is also the house I grew up in, where my grandparents still live. It celebrates it's 100th anniversary next year, although now it has white sideing instead of shingles and a few more rooms.
This picture might be from the very late 30s and not 40s, certianly not after 42.

Carpecaligo: Nice photos, and right Root, should have scanned sooner, they are in storge in another state, this will take some time.
It seems like the 1940's were simpler time period, probably because of the media, radios were the rage, ten cent soda's. You dressed up when you went to town, to the movies, or a dinner date. You don’t see that now a days, kind of makes me sad, I mean when things were simpler, just reminiscing on this HOT day, still search for my Rita Hayworth ;)
Cheers! :cheers1:

Jitterbug photo!

I found this photo on the net some place. But, I love it because it shows just what most kids wore when swinging like gates!

I am a fan of the open wide collar over the sport coat look! Some connect it with the 60's Rat Pack look or the 70's but I don't think that. It came from some where and it was the late 30's and early 40's.

Take a close look at these jive kitties! You'll see how dressed down some of them are!
