1940’s/50’s German Long Motorcycle Coat – L size, super heavy duty everything

For sale is a very heavyweight vintage German motorcycle jacket. I’m guessing this is steer hide but it is not marked. This weighs 8 lbs 7 oz!

In very good condition with really almost no real sign of wear. The liner is in good shape overall with no odors, etc. A bit of minor stitching attention is needed at one underarm of the liner.

The included belt is not original.

Thats a real nice looking coat but doubt its practicality as a bike coat.
Many years ago I had a German wartime motorcycle out riders coat, the rear split was rather higher up the back, also a strap around each leg would stop it flapping around in the wind for faster riding. The same coat was also used for the mounted divisions though horses were more used in ceremonial displays during wartime.
Riding wear is still made with these straps, usually wax cotton these days from makers such as Barbours and Drizabone. The Germans being a rather practical manufacturing company, may have simply used their labelling much like Lewis leather's Aviakit, being originally applied to their Aviation Kit but now used for some motorcycling products. Our German friends applying the motorcycle styled label throughout their clothing range.
I sold mine as it tended to get remarks towards "Look it's Herr Flick' who was a Gestapo character in the wartime comedy 'Allo Allo. Looking back maybe they were right at the time haha.
