Otherwise you will have that vaguely odd moment of turning up in the same thing....which I suppose for men, could possibly make them look like the waitstaff at Olive Garden or something.

Ok,ok but you are just going to make it seem like my wife is right when she asks if I have enough yet.

The camera and I have been fighting today so the pictures aren't very good but they give you an idea of what it looks like. These are all brown hues---even if they do not show up that way.

Great shots. I love this style of tie, the brocades, in general, more than the very loud, rayon ties of the forties. If I ever get kitted up with a digital camera or some way (and some time) to post photos I'll post some of my collection.

I like the one on the far left!!! That thing is amazing! Peace pipes and war bonnets! So cool, I've never seen one like that before!!!

I love brocades a lot and will buy them any time I find them! However, I enjoy all the types of ties I have in my collection equally because they're so unique and beautiful in they're own way. I don't like brocades more then the flashy ties of the 40's or early 50's, I enjoy each tie for what they are.

Brocade/Jacquard- for the record...

I've mentioned it before but I'll mention it again- just for the record see.

"Jacquard" is the self-patterned/tone-on-tone/shadow pattern.
Some people use the term 'self-print' but that would be craziness!

Jacquard ties can be monochromatic but have the pattern/design woven into the cloth. For instance a matte finish satin with a more glossy-appearing pattern woven in but in the same colour- like a tonic effect almost- as in tonic suits- like... the shiny, 'mohair', '60s style. But- again not necessarily the same colour...


"Brocade" is embroidered in high relief and perhaps with a lot of contrast in colour, or use of metalic threads/yarns.

The are also ties which are a mixture- Jacquard with Brocade over it.

The necktie most associated with the 1930s is the woven (or embroidered) brocade, made in silk or rayon. Woven silk ties had always been around, but they tended to be more expensive than printed silks. Below is an example from just before 1920:
