Don't know what sort of set up this would have originally had, but I'll bet a hard hat liner could be adapted without too much hassle.

This is the model the Army issued for years. You see it in the early World War II photos. I have one and they are good sun helmets.
The sweat band is leather/vinyl with laces at the back to adjust the size.
The touch thing is it has a set of metal braces that rivet onto the back and then link into spots on the helmet. Making the sweat would be fairly easy, but you'd have to find a way to attach it.
I didn't think these were that hard to find in good condition.

I know that I am repeating myself, but it is with good reason. This hat is very much like a hardhat, including the shape, mounting & suspension. Here's a modern "4-point" hardhat liner. Some of the old hard hats had 5, 6 point suspension, etc. I really think you should look for a liner for a 6-point hardhat - probably a Bullard or similar vintage brand. Alternatively, you could adapt a modern liner...
