It had some interesting info from the proper hat to wear with a particular suit/occasion, to the right cut of trousers in proportion to body shape etc...The winning bid was over $500!
I tried to attach a link but was unsuccessful.

It was ebay item #330240420871; the seller ID is mybestbooks. I googled the book title and author, and found the same vintage book for sale that was a first printing(the book on ebay was a 2nd edition 1941). That book sold for about 50 euros only.

How you can read this book for FREE

How you can read this book for FREE

Ok, here's some info for everyone who needs this:

This seller started off by selling books from her collection. She gradually upscaled, improved her presentation pictures and started buying quantities of low end books off some of the same websites I frequent. She has found a nice niche for herself in that she puts some time into presenting the books and makes a substantial profit.

Unfortunately, she has cleared out many of the low cost books in bulk with the same titles and various printings from bookseller websites, but that just proves she is just a good capitalist. In general, she makes an amazing profit from her efforts.

You can usually find her books for much less elsewhere, including ebay. I once found a book for $6 that was already up to a $125 bid, so buyer beware.

Here are the various printings of this book:
Men too wear clothes by Dorothy Stote (Unknown Binding - 1950)
Other Editions: Unknown Binding
MEN TOO WEAR CLOTHES (Hardcover - 1939)
MEN TOO WEAR CLOTHES by Dorothy Stole (Hardcover - 1939)

And here is how you can read it for free:

World Catalog of Libraries

And because it needs to be said:
If you are one of those people who need to "own" a book instead of borrowing it, please do not steal from your library. There are others who would like to read this book.

Simply purchase it, or wait for a copy, and will arrive on a bookseller site eventually, I guarantee it. And as one further note, it was voted onto A Basic Book Collection for High Schools recommended list in 1957, so I highly doubt this is so rare as perceived.

Best,

Vintage Betty

Hmmmm....so I guess I can't earn your love unless I give you something for free? lol

Per the rules of the Lounge, I am not allowed to link to or provide links to ebooks that have been scanned by non-authorized sources, due to copyright law. In a quick search though, I didn't see a free ebook available anyway.

That´s me... Something free is the key to my heart lol

I´ve already made an extesive google search and I found absolutely nothing... Not this book, nor any other book about men´s clothing. It´s actually a bit sad, I can find hudreds of gigabytes of pornography in a few seconds, but not even a mention about these books :(

You have company here on the Lounge.

There are many, many books on men's clothing. As an example, I found over 2 dozen of the same 1940's book on men's clothing for $1 US this morning.

So here goes:
*What is your budget?
*What specific information are you looking for? Be as precise as possible. 1920's hats? 1930's Braces? 1950's shoes? The total look from 1938?
*Are you interested in sewing information or picture books?
*Have you spent time reading the Lounge? There are many references to source information, including pictures in my book thread, listed in my signature line.
*Since you have an excellent command of English, may I assume that obtaining books in your native language (CZ = Czechoslovakia?? Slovakian or Czech I presume) is not necessary? Unfortunately, books from your country 1920-1950 tend to focus on the folk aspects of dressing and the embroidery of the period rather than the "american culturization" of clothing that the Lounge represents. In that respect, I agree with you.

Once I learn what you are looking for, I can than best determine on how to assist you. However, it bears repeating: Have you read the Suit and Hat Forums??

As an example, I was asked to provide some reference information to an individual here on the Lounge who is writing an article. I was asked to if I had information on a ladies accessory item. I've been really busy, but I managed to send her about two dozen images so far from my library, from 1928 ONLY of this ladies accessory item. What I want to stress is that I have many more years of information, but since she was extremely precise, I first got her the information she wanted immediately to answer her question, and than promised her I would look for 1927 images, 1929 images, 1930, etc as time permitted. By learning what you are looking for, search the Lounge for details first. If not found, post a query and people of the Lounge usually step up to help.

Cheers-

Thank you for the compliment! Out of curiosity, is it a collector, reproduction book printer, other??

I'm more interested in knowing what the person will DO with the book.

VintageBetty - You are right... This board gives me so huge knowledge base that all my friends and relatives are getting quite annoyed by the things I learned here. Pictures from Apparel Arts and old catalogues offer an invaluable help when thinking what to buy next and what to wear.
And as a homework, I´ll try to find some vintage bookshops (lots of them here, wish there were as much vintage clothes shops as bookshops) and try to find some books on this topic, no matter how rare they are :) (in fact, I don´t think there are at all, but you never know...)

Sooo......someone just bought it off the book site. Who was it??

I tried to buy it. Perhaps it was a bidder who gave up when the amount began to shoot through the roof; and so he decided to find a bargain online.

Well, good for him, whoever he is. It sounds like it is going to a well-loved home who will appreciate the book, and maybe make its way into his business.

If in fact he did win it, it might be displayed at his flagship store La Rosa Vintage in the Haight/Ashbury.
