Eddie, this is Birchover, Derbyshire 1922. maybe you recognise the tennis club / location ?
(another from same set on previous page).

i've scanned a couple of details at high resolution from the photo.
no clothing details unfortunately, but you can certainly get a sense of the early 20s tennis club vibe:

Great picture! I know Birchover a bit - I've camped there a couple of times a few years ago. I wouldn't have expected it to be a big enough place to support a Tennis Club! But it does seem to be typical for a lot of the old tennis and cricket pavilions that are knocking about around here. Perhaps Esteban68 knows of it? I suppose it's entirely possible it isn't there any more though.

Quick question - were ties usually worn for tennis in that era? I know they weren't really for the late twenties and onward, but I was just wondering for that earlier period. Or indeed did they wear those short ties like we've discussed before?

this is one of the best mixed group shots of people in early 20s British clothing i've found. according to the seller it shows the ship 'The Glen Gower' which operated from 1922 between Swansea and Ilfracombe. this picture was taken when the boat was very new and may have even been its inaugural voyage. the clothing would certainly fit with a 1922 date.

nice that, even among the well dressed (and mostly middle class looking) crowd, there's still a guy in the ubiquitous cream flannels, dark blazer, shirt collars out, and what look like canvas cricket boots.

It's pics like this that affirm my wearing of a flat cap with a nice suit. It's a look I like the best! And there are some damned fine caps in this picture - real dustbin lids! Great photo as ever HBK.

Haha Yeh. I'm not sure who else we would convince around our way! It's a classic working man's look though. Do you come across many vintage caps? I've never seen any myself. Presumably they were worn out and chucked more than felt hats.

I've found two truly vintage caps in the last three years ....One is a CC41 job in my size though not really full on ecky thump and another NOS that's very similar possibly fifties though not CC41 marked sadly too small for me being around a size 7 ish.
I guess most of the originals have been worn to death!
