You're welcome. I'm not sure what they are holding, but was hoping someone here did. And the Jazz Suit thread pictures are now saved and re-linked against future breakage. Glad you caught that they survived.

They're playing "conkers", a traditional early Autumn game.

Drill a hole through a horse chestnut seed, and tie a string through the hole. One person holds their string upright by the end, and the other competitor launches their chestnut at the held one, while holding the string so the chestnut arcs through the air. You try to hit the immobile chestnut of your opponent. You take turns. If you hit it, you get another go. The loser is the one whose chestnut breaks first. In the picture above they may have painted their conkers with enamel paint, a common method of cheating to make the conker tougher.

The highlight of my primary school year was our annual schoolwide "conkers" competition. In the initial jousts, instead of aiming for the chestnut you would intentionally aim for your opponents knuckles. These things are bloody sore when they're flung at you on the end of a string.

Christ, it's beena good 20 years since I thought about conkers.

Vintage 1920s suits? Sure, why not. These are American ones. Nearly all are from the second half of the 1920s. The final suit is the exception, because it’s dated 1917.
