from the "that'll never catch on" archives (Charles Williams Store, 1921): a ludicrously high single link-button with long straight front:

Volvo, apart from a couple of the more obviously vintage-inspired Japanese brands i've not seen any typical Japanese RTW suits. did you make note of any brand names ?

The only one I happen to remember is a Hugo Boss suit I noticed in that style...the others were domestic and I didn't really pay attention to the names. Interestingly, I've been watching a lot of 1920s and 30s Japanese movies and noticed that the styles over there now are often very, very close to what was worn back then in Japan. It seems the natural shoulder remained popular in Japan until the early or mid thirties, with jackets getting VERY short. Even later on, the shoulders don't seem to get nearly as wide in Japan as the American shoulders did during the 1940's- until the 1950's when American fashion became more popular.

^Great! I have been liking these 20's tweed two breastpocket suits lately..

The blue illustration one is really nice too.. I like the vertical seams instead of straps. And the pocket 'attached' to the belt loop. Do you happen to have a picture of the whole page? Would love to see the others too!

remember the 'Broadway Jazz model' from 1926... a latter day version of the jazz suit, still with close-set buttons but now with wide trousers ?

... well it's still hanging in there in Sears 1928-9, looking even more incongruous.
the proportions have been normalised somewhat, but you can now order the trousers with 'black bottom cuffs' in case the suit wasn't already vaudeville enough for you:

I watched Harold Lloyd's Why Worry (1923) yesterday and he wore a rather remarkable jacket.
